The band was formed by Andreas Kubat and Sebastian Bohn (DJ Boon) in 1997.
Their debut album "Small Chamber Works" was released in 2001 on their own label "1St. Decade Records".
Later, Larry Lowe (Guitars) joined the band and brought some rock influences. Since then they sound similar to bands like The Faint, Fischerspooner and Death in Vegas, with both rock and electro influences.
In 2004, Northern Lite released their sequel album called "Reach the Sun".
In the same year, Larry left Northern Lite again and Sascha Littek took over his work.
One year later the band won the German Dance Award as "Best Indie/Electronic Artist" and they released their third album "Temper". The album "Unisex" followed in 2006.
At the German "Bundesvision Song Contest 2007" Northern Lite represented their home state Thuringia, performing the song Enemy with the group "Chapeau Claque".
Later the same year, Sascha Littek left the band, too. He was replaced with Valerian Herdam. A fifth album "Super Black" followed in 2008.
Their latest album, "Letters & Signs - Part One", was released on the 18th September, 2009, followed by Letters & Signs - Part Two in 2010.

Enemy
Northern Lite Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
and I can`t do a thing
giving just a little...
but taking everything
no I don`t show
hey I don`t know
maybe I just can`t let go
my lover is my nightmare
stuck in my bed
feeling just so good about it
but she`s gonna regret
no I don`t show
hey I don`t know
maybe I just can`t let go
The Northern Lite's song Enemy is a poignant depiction of a toxic relationship where the singer's lover has become their enemy. The lyrics are vividly powerful and expose the inner turmoil of the singer who is stuck in a cycle of giving everything while receiving nothing. The lyrics "my lover is my enemy and I can't do a thing" expresses the helplessness of the singer as they are trapped in a vicious cycle of love and hate.
The song gets even more intense when the singer says "no I don't show, hey I don't know, maybe I just can't let go". Here, the singer voices their confusion and uncertainty about their feelings towards their lover, and possibly the sense of guilt that they can't break free from this toxic relationship. The lines "my lover is my nightmare, stuck in my bed, feeling just so good about it, but she's gonna regret" suggests the powerful attraction and passion existing in the relationship, which are perhaps the reasons that make it so hard to let go.
The song is a powerful and emotional exploration of the difficulties of letting go of a relationship that has become toxic. It beautifully captures the pain and confusion of the singer, who is struggling to free themselves from their lover who has become their enemy.
