Everyone Is Happy
Nothing Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Defy your solitude
The ghost of you
Is moving through
Climb Ladders
Of your thorns
To reach your rose
Is what I chose
I suppose

Your sorrow
Was empty
But I see
Is still heavy
Kneeling
And praying
Are the same
You're just begging
And that's a sin

Tell me again
How you needed a friend
Again

I don't think of you

Overall Meaning

as much as I used to

The lyrics of "Everyone Is Happy" by Nothing speak about the struggle of loneliness, finding love, and dealing with the heavy burden of grief. The first stanza talks about the perseverance and determination that one has to go through to find love while going through the thorns of solitude. The ghost of memories still resides, but one has to climb through these personal barriers to find love, despite the pain of loss.

The second stanza deals with the struggles that come with grief. The sorrow that one is going through is not something that anyone can truly comprehend. The lyrics speak about the difference between kneeling and praying, where one may beg for relief. However, this is seen as a sin. The person is still struggling despite all of these efforts. The lines, "Tell me again how you needed a friend, again" show the desperation to find someone to talk to, someone to share the burden with, but nobody seems to listen.

The final lines "I don't think of you as much as I used to" show a sense of detachment or acceptance of the situation. Perhaps the person has found closure through their struggles and has moved on. Or perhaps, it is a coping mechanism to survive the pain of loss.

Escape the Fall

This is a hidden gem by Nothing. This song makes me feel either at peace or really sad. I listened to it often while walking around my college campus and most times this song would let me forget about my stress.

Paco Levy

@Escape the Fall It’s already a few years old and I’ve never seen them play it live or anything so I think this one will remain a hidden treasure for the people who know

Escape the Fall

Definitely! The mellow guitars and drums are my favorite part of the song! I hope Nothing gives this song more representation in the future, it deserves some time in the spotlight!

Paco Levy

So underrated right? It’s probably my favorite Nothing song, so fucking mellow and the lyrics are absolutely beautiful

Shaun Savage

Simply Genius, beautiful song! These guys never disappoint, I hope one day I can see them live of at least meet them.

Shaun Savage

Dave Haze yes they do seem that way from their live feeds and replying to their fans, my gf even got em to wish me happy birthday last year and they did on their own page! Really cool guys.

Dave Haze

they've only been touring constantly for the last few years, everywhere, and are pretty darn approachable, if you offer them a drink w your company... Got to chill, share a beer and a shot, with every member of the band (except for Basset, but didn't really care much to particularly meet him anyway) this past summer. Could've again if I'd gone to their shows, there after since, in my area... Don't hope brutha, achieve!!

Anubis

I absolutely love this song.

Robert Ward

I looove that these dudes are from my hometown because they're the best new shit out there

Joe Megson

I tried listening to this at 75% speed, and it still sounds great.
