Our Plague
Nothing Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Water colored fingers
Paint my picture
Interlocking tightly
Candles flicker

Trembling hands of mercy
They will not
Sing for me

Promise I could make it on my own

Throwing flowers at her
My worst behavior
Change my tired patterns
If you could change yours as well

Promise I could make it alone

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song "Our Plague" by Nothing expresses a strong sense of loneliness and helplessness. The first two lines "Water colored fingers, paint my picture" is a metaphor for the fragility of life that is prone to be destroyed just like a watercolor picture. The next line "Interlocking tightly, candles flicker" is a metaphor for the strength of interpersonal relationships that still waver and weaken over time.

The next set of lines "Trembling hands of mercy, they will not sing for me, promise I could make it on my own" gives the impression of pleading for help from others. The hands of mercy represent the people who the singer thinks will support them, but instead, they refuse to help. The last line of the stanza "Promise I could make it on my own" shows the singer wanting to be independent but fails to receive the help needed.

In the following stanza, the lyrics "Throwing flowers at her, My worst behavior, Change my tired patterns, If you could change yours as well" is the singer pleading for forgiveness and trying to make amends. The singer acknowledges their flaws and is willing to change for the better, and hopes that the other person will do the same.

Awesome Album it sounds like twenty of my favorite 1990s heroin bands all combined wih a clean crisp indie rock sound that reminds me of Modest Mouse or a faint almost ethereal spiritual bond with Grunge Dog Star Gazer magic dust sprinkled in
