Up To You
Nothing Done Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
skate whatever you can find
grinding slappies all day long
humming all your favorite songs
land tricks after many tries
slapping high fives with the guys
drinking cokes and eating shit
skate and destroy
or skate to create?
it's up to you!
The lyrics of "Up to You" by Nothing Done describe the world of skateboarding and the different attitudes one can have towards it. The first few lines mention some common skateboarding tricks like kickflip boardslide, 5-0 grind, and slappies, and how skaters will skate anything they can find. The next lines talk about the joy of cruising and humming along to your favorite tunes while skating.
The lyrics also depict the struggles that skaters go through in trying to nail certain tricks and the camaraderie that develops between skaters as they slap high fives and share sodas. The final lines of the song present two contrasting attitudes towards skating: "skate and destroy" or "skate to create?" This suggests that skating can be seen as a destructive activity that is all about aggression and pushing limits, or it can be seen as a creative outlet that allows individuals to express themselves through their skating style. Ultimately, the lyrics of "Up to You" leave it up to the listener to decide which perspective on skating they find more appealing.
