2.) Nouveaux, originally hailing from Michigan, released two albums for Benson Records in the early 90's, Beginnings and ...And This Is How I Feel. The band consisted of Paul Alan, Steve Ashley, Kurt Lehman, K.C. Smothers, Brad Angus, and Jeff Ausdemore.
Beginnings was an over-produced def Leppard-like clone, but ...And This Is How I Feel saw the group hit their stride with a melodic earthy/acoustic sound that spawned multiple top 5 hits.
After the demise of the group, Alan went on to a solo career, releasing Falling Awake on Aluminum Records and garnering two hit singles ("She's the Reason" and "Leaving Lonely").

Missing you, I'm missing you
Somehow I can't remember ever forgetting how
I needed you, lord, I needed you
I serenade the heavens, crying out for mercy
Carry me, father, carry me
Well, this heart is bleeding, broken, needing,
Slowly dying, hardly beating
Like the air that I breathe, I need you
This image is so surreal
I don't want to live without you lord
And this is how I feel
I thought I heard an angel, an angel whispering
You're watching me, I know you're watching me
I think I'll rest a while in the knowledge
You are never letting go of me, never letting go
With this holy water falling like the dew
Holy father hold me near you
Listening, are you listening
Like the air that I breathe, I need you
This image is so surreal
I don't want to live without you lord
And this is how I feel
Like the air that I breathe, I need you
This image is so surreal
I don't want to live without you lord
And this is how I feel
Like the air that I breathe, I need you
This image is so surreal
I don't want to live without you lord
And this is how I feel
The lyrics to Nouveaux's song "Listen" depict a sense of abandonment and longing for a higher power, expressed through vivid imagery and an emotional vocal performance. The opening lines, "circles on the water, a lonely tear has fallen," create a tone of sadness and contemplation. The singer is missing someone, perhaps a loved one or a spiritual figure, and can't forget how much they needed them. The chorus, "like the air that I breathe, I need you," emphasizes the depth of this necessity, suggesting that the person or entity being lamented is as vital to the singer's survival as the very oxygen they inhale.
The second verse continues with the idea of crying out for mercy, as the singer "serenade[s] the heavens" and begs to be carried by a higher power. The image of "holy water falling like the dew" invokes a sense of purity and redemption, as the singer seeks solace and comfort in the embrace of a benevolent force. The bridge, "I thought I heard an angel, an angel whispering / you're watching me, I know you're watching me," is particularly poignant, as it suggests that even in the depths of despair, there is a sense of divine guidance and protection.
Overall, "Listen" is a powerful song that speaks to the human need for connection and the search for something greater than oneself. The lyrics are expressive and evocative, painting a vivid picture of a soul in distress and reaching out for salvation.
