Blind
Numb Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Testtube mammoth wasting asphyxiated, dying in the grey
Death rattle for a herd of cattle, roaring with decay
Corrupted slide, breaking on the scene
A lighter shade of noise floor, keep your head between your knees

Blind - deafened undone
Blind - leading the stunned
Blind - cutting out the tongue
Blind - fattened artificial sun

No want of waste, in emptiness, lucky vacant blast
No sense of taste, in requiem, one wild kiss
Cannibal feeding frenzy, crippled hope for your cathode head
Spinning culture stuck to the edges, a document for the breathing dead

Double jointed double tincture, spitting bleeding skin display
Flashpoint head emetic, feeding rats their stinking rave

Twitching bliss incision, offering their beaten trash
Revolution based on ? transcendental garbage crash

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Blind by Numb paint a picture of a bleak and dystopian world full of decay, corruption, and destruction. The Testtube mammoth represents the grotesque mutations humanity has created in their thirst for progress, only to watch them wither away and suffocate because of their own destructive nature. The image of a herd of dying cattle, their anguished roars echoing in the misty grey, symbolizes the desolation wrought upon nature by human negligence and disregard for the environment.

The corruption is also evident in the "lighter shade of noise floor," indicating that even the soundscape of the world is polluted and subverted from its natural rhythm. The refrain of "Blind," repeated throughout the song, emphasizes the sense of loss and helplessness that permeates the lyrics. The blindness is not just literal, but also metaphorical, indicating the inability of individuals to see the reality of their situation and take necessary action.

Numb's Blind also portrays society's obsession with consumerism, where individuals have no concept of want and are content with a vacuous and meaningless existence. The image of cannibal feeding frenzy reflects the cutthroat competition in the capitalist system where everyone is out for their own gain. The culture depicted is one of stagnation, where there is no room for growth and creativity, and people are stuck on the periphery, watching the world disintegrate before their eyes.

In all, Numb's Blind is a scathing commentary on the emptiness and corruption that has seeped into every aspect of human life, leaving behind a world that is blind, deaf, and lifeless.

The albums Blood Meridian and Wasted Sky by Numb influenced my life and artwork heavily along with select other industrial artists during the 1980's and 1990's. I am pleasantly surprised to find many of them uploaded here along with other musicians I know and some whom I have had the honor to work with.

(Thank you Natashead Overdrive, it is uplifting to see there are others who enjoy these works)

Thank you and you're welcome!
I love Numb as much as you do, they're IMO as inspiring as they're (sadly) underrated, one of the best Industrial band out there as far as I'm concerned, glad you enjoy my uploads :D

@BlackArroToons

Agreed. David Collings and Don Gordon with Blood Meridian and Language of Silence albums in 1997 and 1998 were way ahead of their time with these incredible, original and intense electronic Industrial albums. Collings also has some new material with The Fourth Man years ago. Gordon with a new Numb album recently.

@BlackArro Cartoons They've been a massive influence for me. It was why I signed Stark to my label, who also did Neon Womb and now works with ShivR
