Overall Meaning

How is this more disruptive to the show if he had used all his sick days instead of saving them up? Isn't it MORE disruptive to take random sick days than to give notice that you'll be taking one every Monday?

Your average sick day accumulation is around 1 day per month. So that means Steve went almost SIX YEARS without taking a sick day? Instead of saying, "Well I guess he deserves a break for never missing a day for six years," bitchboy Opie cries, "THIS IS A BIG FUCK YOU TO THE SHOW ME ME ME MEEEEEEEE!" Who the fuck wouldn't take off every day they legally could from a job? Especially one where the bosses constantly called you gay?

In fairness to Steve C it is kind of crazy the way they're all insisting he's paranoid for thinking people are against him and out to get him when literally the previous day they're all bragging and laughing about how they deliberately feed Steve false information so he fucks up in his job. And Opie was literally encouraging his staff to disrespect Steve C and was actually mocking Erock for not disrespecting him.

I'm not saying Steve C wasn't wrong in the overall argument but the cognitive dissonance of Opie and the other staff is pretty astounding.

Listening to this is depressing knowing Steve eventually committed suicide. I think Steve was thrust into the producers position (after Ben Sparks was fired) which wasn't really his skill set. He was good at making audio that the show used (Ramone, "that's terrible, I'm sorry") and talking on air. He was not good at managing and directing people. On top of that stress he knew half the staff didn't like him, and that Anthony's best friend Danny absolutely despised him and always threw passive aggressive jabs - like rolling his eyes like a 14 year old girl every time Steve spoke. He tried taking as many Monday's off as possible because he hated his job.

Am I missing something? Sick days are for when you're sick, they're not vacation days. Everyone here, Steve C, Opie, the other staff and the company are talking about sick days like they're vacation days: "You've X amount of sick days, you need to take them before Y" - that sounds bizarre to me. Maybe it's a cultural thing but here in the UK if you announced you weren't sick but you were taking a sick day anyway you'd be in shit with your boss.

As for Opie - yeah, he's a double-talking zilch. I heard one show where he was babbling about shitty employers getting pissed at employees for arriving late or going home early, saying so long as the job gets done on time it shouldn't matter to the employer when the employee arrives or leaves - then on another show he's ranting at Erock for being habitually late, saying it doesn't matter that he's getting the work done, he needs to arrive on time because it's not professional. And there's moments in this audio where I think he's deliberately pretending not to understand what Steve was saying. Cunt.

I feel like Steve was dealing with depression issues and hiding it from the staff. Probably tried to take the days off to deal with his issues. Knowing what happened inevitably, it isn't too much of a stretch to assume. But I bet the staff didn't know about those issues at this point. Just an opinion.

In fairness I think Opie paid all Sam's travel and hotel costs, and then some, in order to bring him his luggage. He didn't force Sam to do it, Sam did it voluntarily, and you could argue he wrangled a free weekend vacation out of it. But I agree about the way they treated Steve C. If Steve was a normal employee with a good working relationship with everybody and he decided to take all that time off I can see how people would be pissed - but they shat on him every single day for his entire career there. You can't abuse an employee/co-worker that much and then act surprised when they say "Fuck it, I'm taking all the time off I'm entitled to".

I can't believe that Opie is being this much of a selfish baby. This dude is making millions upon Millions to sit there and do nothing and the staff, that does everything behind the scenes reslly, is managing their days off appropriately, days off that are allotted to them, and he is crying like a baby about it? What's sad is that he likely killed himself partly because he was the most unliked person on the show by other staff members - but he was easily the most liked member by the audience! I guess it was hard for him to see because people didn't really express it until after he died, but I think if he'd known how well liked he was by the fans compared to Danny, Sam, Erock and....Opie.....he may not have ended up doing what he did. :(

Opie is the definition of the Dunning-Kruger effect. He's of below average intelligence and below average ability in pretty much everything, including perception - and his low perception skills prevent him from seeing just how below average at everything he is, so he assumes the reason he reaches different conclusions than most people is because he is above average intelligence and ability and that it's everyone else who is behind him.
