All or Nothing
O‐Town Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ooh

I know when he's been on your mind
That distant look is in your eyes
I thought with time you'd realize
It's over, over

It's not the way I choose to live
And something somewhere's got to give
As sharing this relationship gets older, older
You know I'd fight for you
But how can I fight someone who isn't even there
I've had the rest of you now I want the best of you
I don't care if that's not fair

'Cause I want it all
Or nothing at all
There's no where left to fall
When you reach the bottom it's now or never
Is it all or are we just friends
Is this how it ends
With a simple telephone call
You leave me here with nothing at all

There are times it seems to me
I'm Sharing you with memories
I feel it in my heart
But I don't show it, show it
And then there's times you look at me
As though I'm all that you can see
Those times I don't believe it's right
I know it, know it

Don't make me promises
Baby, you never did know how to keep them well
I've had the rest of you
Now I want the best of you
It's time for show and tell

'Cause I want it all
Or nothing at all
There's no where left to fall
When you reach the bottom it's now or never

Is it all or are we just friends
Is this how it ends
With a simple telephone call
You leave me here with nothing

'Cause you and I
Could lose it all if you've got no more room
No room inside for me in your life

'Cause I want it all
Or nothing at all
There's no where left to fall
It's now or never

Is it all or nothing at all
There's no where left to fall
When you reach the bottom it's now or never
Is it all or are we just friends
Is this how it ends
With a simple telephone call
You leave me here with nothing at all

Or nothing at all
There's no where left to fall
When you reach the bottom it's now or never
Is it all or are we just friends
Is this how it ends

With a simple telephone call
You leave me here with nothing at all, oh

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of O-Town's "All or Nothing" are a plea for commitment from a relationship that seems to be fading away. The singer recognizes that his partner is no longer fully present in the relationship and is preoccupied with memories of someone else. He expresses his frustration at sharing the relationship with these memories and wanting more from his partner. He believes that he deserves the best of his partner, but she is unable to give it to him. The singer accuses his partner of being unable to keep promises and not knowing what she wants. He demands that she make a choice between giving him everything or leaving him with nothing at all.

The song's chorus reflects the singer's ultimatum to his partner. He insists that he wants all or nothing from her and that there is nowhere left to fall in the relationship. He acknowledges that the relationship is now or never and that it may be time for them to part ways. The song concludes with the singer asking if they are friends or if their relationship is over with a simple telephone call, mourning the possibility of losing everything he has invested in their relationship.
