Get Down
O'Sullivan Gilbert Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Told you once before
And I won't tell you no more
Get down, get down, get down
You're a bad dog baby
But I still want you 'round

You give me the creeps
When you jump on your feet
So get down, get down, get down
Keep your hands to yourself
I'm strictly out of bounds

Once upon a time I drank a little wine
Was as happy as could be, happy as could be
Now I'm just like a cat on a hot tin roof
Baby what do you think you're doin' to me

Told you once before
And I won't tell you no more
So get down, get down, get down
You're a bad dog baby
But I still want you 'round, around
I still want you around

I don't give a damn
And I'd like you if you can to
Get down, get down, get down

You're a bad dog baby
But I still want you 'round

Overall Meaning

The song "Get Down" by O'Sullivan Gilbert is a classic example of a pop song from the 70s. The lyrics of this song are very straightforward and easy to understand. The song starts with the singer telling his lover that he had told her before to get down, and he won't repeat himself again. He calls her a bad dog because of her mischievous behavior but still wants her around. The singer warns her to keep her hands to herself because he is strictly out of bounds, yet he still wants her to stick around.

The singer then reminisces about the time he was happy drinking wine but is now like a cat on a hot tin roof. He blames his lover for his current state, and he tells her once again to get down. He doesn't give a damn about her actions and still wants her around.

This man is musical genius , I cannot understand why he is not revered like Neil Diamond or Paul Simon

@banditmma

Musical Genius? Come ON!
He had some decent songs, this being one of them, but genius, no.
Bach was a musical genius, Beethoven, Mozart, were geniuses. Of you want to talk about modern comparisons being geniuses, then Maybe John Williams, maybe guys like Paul Simon, Brian Wilson and a few others. You want to talk about people like Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson etc. Gilbert O Sullivan's music is on a third grade Nursery Rhyme level of skill compared to any of the above mentioned. Some of the songs are are great but if you are one of the people that like to reserve words like genius for those that truly are, then Gilbert O Sullivan isn't one of them. Not even close.

Exactly! never given the credit he deserved, immensely talented songwriter.

@davedzone he ended up in a prolonged court battle with his ex manager.. Gordon Mills in 1982 and then later he took Biz Markle to court over a sample of Alone again naturally. He won both

Seriously catchy song. My uncle worked at the BBC for many years. He met a lot of famous people- some nice, some not so nice. He describes Gilbert O'Sullivan as a "thoroughly brilliant bloke".
