What If
O.G.P Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(What if) what if I never slept around, never cheated on you girl
(What if) what if didn't break your heart and never ever ruined you world
(What if) what if I always was a real man, face to face to face told you the truth?
(What if) what If I never ever took when you said you wanted to go out and hang with your crew?
(What if) what if I was a different man?
(What if) what if I wasn't so selfish and took one second just to listen to you
(What if) what if I was alone? On my own
(What if) what if I wasn't so damn controlling, you would still be right here

[Chorus]
We would still be together, be together, be together right now [3x]
We would still be together, we would still be together girl

(What if) what if I didn't have lame excuses for all the stuff that I do?
(What if) what if I had no baby mommas, no damn drama and I never were around you
(What if) what if never called out your name and treated you like you were my queen
(What if) what if I woke up from this madness and this shit was just a dream
(What if) what if I really went to work and spent a whole day creeping?
(What if) what if you were at the beauty shop and you didn't here about me last week?
(What if) what if you ever asked me a question and I didn't stut-stut-stutter all of the time?
(What if) what if I wasn't so damn controlling, you would still

[Chorus]

(What if) what if I never said I do when I do that I wasn't ready for you
(What if) what if I gave a damn to my church and did to get off in the VIP

[Chorus]

We would still be together girl

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of O.G.P's song "What If" express regret and self-reflection of a man who has hurt his partner repeatedly. The repetition of the phrase "what if" creates a hypothetical scenario where the singer imagines what his life would have been if he had made different choices. The singer accepts responsibility for his actions and wishes he had been a better man, one who didn't cheat, lie, or control his partner. He recognizes that his selfishness and lack of consideration have driven her away, and now he is left alone, imagining how much better his life would be if he had treated her differently.

The chorus of the song emphasizes the singer's desire to be with his partner again, despite all the hurt he has caused. His "what if" scenarios are a way of expressing his wish to turn back time, to have a chance to make things right. The final line, "We would still be together, we would still be together girl," suggests that he believes that he and his partner have a chance to repair their relationship, but only if he changes his ways.

Overall, "What If" is a powerful expression of remorse and self-reflection, and it reminds us that our choices have consequences, which can have a lasting impact on the people we love.

All this stuff before digital music production really had depth to it.

And this is digital as well ;) There is nothing to do analog vs digital. It is just that hard trance is not mainstream anymore and morphed into modern day hardstyle bs. Even hardstyle as it initially was is not anymore what it should be. Today mainstream bs is mostly done soley in computer. But it doesnt mean that in older times production was not in the box. It was, but the understanding of good electronic music is absolutely different for wide audience. That is why we dont meet often such tracks like this. I even dont listen most of the hard trance made after 2005, so I get your point. 👍

@HT9802 Why you hatin, hardstyle was the shit back in the day.

HT9802

@Eametsa Yeah, well I prefer old school tracks. New hardsyle is just not my taste. So different times, different music.

I wonder how this track and tracks like these are made, compared to today's production type

Hardware synths (Access Virus, Roland JP, Nord Lead etc), FX units like Yamaha Rev500, compressors/limiters. Maybe Akai samplers for kicks and samples, lot's of basslines (reverse bass) were sampled from other tracks and were treated with distortion, EQ or whatever. Also a mixing desk, computers were more for MIDI data. Some people used Atari, some Macintosh and PC, when time went on computers become more powerful and were used more for audio processing and eventually first VST's came along in early 00's.
