No More
O.M.S. Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tried to see you yesterday
I had so many things I wanted to say
Yet when knocked your mother answered the door
Said I can see you no more.

Why? I asked her politely
You're not her type, she said, you're too carefree
So take your bunch of wild petunias and go
We don't want you here no more

Now why does it always have to be me
Who gets picked upon just like three
Daisies in a jam jar looking bored
Or three Spanish bullfighters

That have just been gored
Why don't you try helping me
By telling your mother how charming I can be

And maybe the next time that I knock on your door
She won't send me away no more.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of O.M.S.'s song No More tell the story of a person who tries to see their love interest but is denied entry by the love interest's mother. The singer wonders why they always seem to be the one who is excluded and compares themselves to "daisies in a jam jar looking bored" or "three Spanish bullfighters that have just been gored." The mother deems the singer as "not her type" and "too carefree," and tells them to leave and never return.

The song can be interpreted as a commentary on societal expectations and the pressure to conform to certain standards in order to be accepted. The singer feels excluded and rejected because they don't fit the mold that the mother expects for her child's partner. The reference to the "three Spanish bullfighters that have just been gored" can also be interpreted as a metaphor for the pain of rejection and exclusion.

The lyrics also suggest that the singer is not willing to give up on their love interest and wants to prove themselves in order to win over the mother's approval. They ask for help from their love interest to demonstrate their charm and appeal, hoping that the next time they come knocking on the door, they won't be sent away.

Overall, the lyrics of No More convey a sense of longing and frustration in the face of societal expectations, while also offering a glimmer of hope for eventual acceptance and approval.

In 1977 I met Yoshihisa Maitani, the M in OM.

He was the designer of the eponymous M series, which then were relabelled as OM.
As a consequence, I bought a OM-2 in 1978 and have been a major fanboi since.
As Jimmy says, many users like me still use the old lenses, they are still valuable on the digital cameras, and look and feel so neat.
[insert pic of my "new" Zuiko 500 mm mirror on my EM1]

The logo is neat and retro in a good way and is quite emphatically a call to legacy while providing a clear identity going forward.

The only question I have, and I am very concerned about this: will the new cameras be called Olympus?

Hopefully they are, and hopefully we get a rationalising of the dreadfully complex model names to something like OM-D1.
(Don't get me started on the Pen names!)

This was a big announcement since one’s name is so important in Japanese culture. I thought the long version video was really good and demonstrated serious commitment to the micro 4/3 format. Looking forward to new product teased by this. I’m glad that they did not rush announcement until the product is ready!

nice to see someone gets it :)

"one’s name is so important in Japanese culture" - this was the whole point of the movie we call Spirited Away.

Well then they failed ...System is a bad word for a brand name imo....OM System is as bad as OM Camera, OM Division, OM Technology, OM Electronics, OM Optics.... actually I like OM Optics, it could be abbreviated to OMO...anyway I don't feel that OM System name is growing on me... they better start creating really exceptional cameras.

Chris Patmore

But OM System has always been part of the Olympus branding from the early days of OM-1. Even the logo was the same. Makes you wonder which company took over which. But as long as they keep making great gear, what's in a name? Although not calling it Olympus will take time, that's a 40+ year habit to break. And with om being the primordial cosmic syllable, maybe we'll be helping restore balance to the universe every time we talk about our cameras.

Overall this is probably the best answer they could have come up with if they really had to ditch the Olympus name at all, so it could be a lot worse. But I just wish they could indeed have kept the Olympus name and iconic logo. I expect to always continue thinking of, and referring to, my camera gear as Olympus, even if I buy any OM-branded kit in future. Olympus is simply the camera brand that I’ve invested in and most cared about for decades. Also, they didn’t exactly retain the Olympus name for long, did they? Whatever happened to continuing to use it for the “foreseeable future”? So, a decent solution, but I’m sad to see the Olympus name go.

As someone who still owns 3 old OM cameras I'm fine with the name. My OM-1 still has some shots left that I need to shoot so I can get them developed. I guess we are so gear focused a lot of us wanted specifics about a new camera, I do hope they announce a new flagship soon, with a new sensor, and high end features to compete with the new GH6. I also really feel like it should come out in early 2022 or late 2021 to get more mind-share.

Hopefully, the OM System will include noise-reducing microphones; especially one's capable of reducing the effects of wind noise 😜

One thing I am actually thinking about this branding though. During the old days, the OM was just one of the product line from Olympus. And we can see how currently Olympus focus heavily on developing the OM-D line (EM-1, EM-5, EM-10). I myself use the very first EM-5, so I guess it's ok for me. However, there are some people who prefer even smaller and lighter camera like in the PEN series (especially the EP-L and EP-M line), and compared to the OM-D series, the PEN series kinda forgotten. Is Olympus (or OM System from now on) going to abandon the PEN series especially with their new branding?
