Long summers and cold winters
I endured difficult times throughout the year.

I was underage, but associating with drug dealers.

I was focused on achieving academic success, while my friend was more preoccupied with avoiding jail.

Knew a lot of single mothers who really felt like they failed
I was acquainted with several single mothers who felt unsuccessful.

The oldest one in and out the youngest grew up in jail
The eldest child was in and out of trouble, while the youngest spent their life in prison.

Thankful I ain’t got the same story but I know it all too well
I am grateful that my story is different, but I am thoroughly familiar with these experiences.
