Upside Down
OFF! Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The flame in my soul has faded away.
Into blackness I fall through veils of grey.
Through a tunnel filled with mist.
I realise my life is over, I no longer exist.
Looking into the distance I see no light.
In the everdark my soul eternally hides.
Transfixed by the thought if this is my hell.
Deep down in the everynothing I fell.

Into Blackness

Confused....I realise I already went through hell
while living in an empty room....
Confused....with everything in the outside world
behind the walls where I sat staring at a dying candle.

I'm falling forever!!!!!!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Upside Down" by OFF! describe the journey of a person who has lost their passion, motivation, and reason for living. The metaphorical flame in their soul has faded away, leaving them to fall into the blackness of nothingness. The song paints a picture of a person who has lost their sense of purpose and hope, and as they fall through the veils of grey, they come to the realization that their life is over and that they no longer exist.

The imagery of the tunnel filled with mist reflects the confusion and disorientation that the singer is feeling. They are unable to see clearly and are lost in the darkness of their own despair. The line "Transfixed by the thought if this is my hell" suggests that the singer may be in a state of purgatory or limbo, unable to move forward or find peace.

The repetition of the chorus and the use of the word "forever" emphasize the sense of hopelessness and despair that the singer is feeling. They are trapped in a cycle of darkness and emptiness, unable to break free and find a way out. The song ends with the haunting image of the singers falling deep down into the everynothingness, suggesting the finality of their fate and the emptiness that awaits them.

Dimitri Coats nailed the old school guitar sound! Raw and rocking. Most modern bands that play "old school hardcore" or even bands that do reunions like negative approach just have this boring, metal-like distortion due to the use of modern amps. And Keith...the best old school hardcore singer!

@Bear Hogg
Well he does not look to be struggling with it.

al throughout my adolescence I really loved Keith Morris and his Circle Jerks, and OFF sound exactly like 1980s!!!

conwayjug

Keith Morris is King!!! This is the most exciting thing I've heard in years. I want energy not a blast from the past, this has enough power to split an atom.

nateck

Kinda eerie how much that sounds like it could've been recorded in LA in 1982.
