Here It Goes Again
OK Go Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It could be ten, but then again
I can't remember half an hour since a quarter to four
Throw on your clothes, the second side of Surfer Rosa
And you leave me with my jaw on the floor

Just when you think (think) you're in control
Just when you think (think) you've got a hold
Just when you get on a roll
Here it goes, here it goes, here it goes again
Oh, here it goes again
I should have known, should have known, should have known again
But here it goes again
Oh, here it goes again

It starts out easy, something simple, something sleazy
Something inching past the edge of reserve
Now through the lines of the cheap venetian blinds
Your car is pulling off of the curb

Just when you think you're in control
Just when you think you've got a hold
Just when you get on a roll
Oh, here it goes, here it goes, here it goes again
Oh, here it goes again
I should have known, should have known, should have known again
But here it goes again
Oh, here it goes
Oh, here it goes
Oh, here it goes again
Oh, here it goes again

I guess there's gotta be a break in the monotony
But Jesus, when it rains, how it pours
Throw on your clothes, the second side of Surfer Rosa
And you leave me, yeah, you leave me

Oh, here it goes, here it goes, here it goes again
Oh, here it goes again
I should have known, should have known, should have known again
But here it goes again
Oh, here it goes
Oh, here it goes
Oh, here it goes again
I should have known
I should have known
But here it goes again
Oh here it, oh here it, oh here it, oh here it
Oh, here it goes again
I should have, I should have, I should have, I should have
I should have known
I should have known

Oh, here it goes again
Oh, here it goes again

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to OK Go's song Here It Goes Again describe the feeling of being caught up in a cycle of unpredictability and chaos. The line "It starts out easy, something simple, something sleazy" suggests that the situation that the singer finds themselves in may have begun innocently enough, but has spiraled out of control. As the song progresses, the mood becomes more frantic, with the repetition of "Just when you think you're in control/Just when you think you've got a hold/Just when you get on a roll" emphasizing the singer's lack of agency in the situation.

The lines "Throw on your clothes, the second side of Surfer Rosa/And you leave me with my jaw on the floor" suggest that the singer's partner is leaving them once again, perhaps after a fight or disagreement. The reference to the album Surfer Rosa by the Pixies suggests that this may be a common occurrence for the singer, who turns to music as a source of comfort and distraction.

Overall, the lyrics to Here It Goes Again convey a sense of frustration, confusion, and resignation in the face of a chaotic and unpredictable situation. The repetition of the chorus and the lack of resolution at the end of the song suggest that this cycle is likely to repeat itself again and again.

Honestly, what a hallmark of a simpler time. No fancy editing, not the greatest camera, just four guys, a banger song, some treadmills and a butt ton of creativity.
Respect. Now and forever.

@thechild79

My father worked with them before the band

@cahinton.

To be fair, I wouldn't call this video a "hallmark of a simpler time". This went viral because of the whimsical creativity and "homemade" quality, which wasn't at all common for big-name bands 18 years ago.

@FleurDeFire

@@cahinton. True but did you really have to say 18 years ago???

Goodness when did I get old lol
