Use Me
OMAR Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
They keep trying to tell me all you want to do is use me
But my answer yeah to all that use me stuff
Is I want to spread the news that if it feels this good getting used
Oh you just keep on using me until you use me up
Until you use me up
My brother sit me right down and he talked to me
And I'm sure he meant well yeah but when our talk was through
I said brother if you only knew you'd wish that you were in my shoes
You just keep on using me until you use me up
Until you use me up
Oh sometimes yeah it's true you really do abuse me
You get in a crowd of high class people and then you act real rude to me
But oh baby baby baby baby when you love me I can't get enough
I and I want to spread the news that if it feels this good getting used
Oh you just keep on using me until you use me up
Until you use me up
Talking about you using me but it all depends on what you do
It ain't too bad the way you're using me
'Cause I sure am using you to do the things you do
Ah ha to do the things you do
The lyrics in Omar's Use Me discuss a relationship in which the singer recognizes that their partner may be using them for their own benefit, but continues to allow it to happen because it feels good. The singer states that their friends and family have tried to warn them about their partner's intentions, but they simply cannot resist the connection they have.
The line "if it feels this good getting used, oh you just keep on using me until you use me up" highlights the idea that sometimes we allow ourselves to be used because the pleasure or benefit we receive outweighs detrimental consequences. In the second verse, the singer's brother advises them not to be walked on by their partner, but the singer counters that their brother does not understand the situation or the intense feelings involved. The chorus repeats the idea that the singer does not mind being used as long as the pleasure continues.
The lyrics also describe how the partner's behavior can be inconsistent, sometimes treating the singer poorly in front of high class people, but then acting lovingly towards them in private. The final lines, "It ain't too bad the way you're using me, 'Cause I sure am using you to do the things you do" suggest that the singer recognizes that they are benefiting from the relationship as well and are willing to continue the cycle of use.
Overall, the lyrics convey the complex emotions involved in relationships where one may be using the other, but both parties continue to allow it to happen.
