After the lukewarm US sales for the LP “For Pleasure,” subsequent Omar releases were only available as pricey imports. She pop the bean like a ollie (Ollie)
Told her I ain't fucking with molly (Molly)
If you need me baby call me (Call me)
She sippin' lean she not sorry (Sorry)
Tonight in Vegas I'm faded (I'm faded)
My bitch in Dallas she waiting (Waiting)
She wanna play like controlla
(Oh)
(Yeah)
I fell a way, you fell apart
We never finish so why should we start
Fucking around now look where we are
Fading to black and you take it to heart
Fighting these demons, give me a reason, said I was leaving packing it up
Change of the season keep me up dreaming what is the feeling of giving it up
I don't know what to do no more, you don't know who to call no more
Call me when you're faded, call me when you're home, and when you finally make it
You know I'll be on (Yeah) you know I'll be (No, no, no, no)
She pop the bean like a ollie (Ollie)
Told her I ain't fucking with molly (Molly)
If you need me baby call me (Call me)
She sippin' lean she not sorry (Sorry)
Tonight in Vegas I'm faded (I'm faded)
My bitch in Dallas she waiting (Waiting)
She wanna play like controlla
Thinking that she from the NOLA (NOLA)
(Oh)
(Yeah)
Faded off drugs faded off love
Passionate 'bout all the music I does
I need to go can't think when I'm stuck
I'm never moving when push comes the shove
But I need help from above
I don't need hate show me love
Where do I go? where do I go?
Baby you know where I'm from
We not a match we just fit like a glove
Went to the top from the slums
Bang on my chest like a drum
Thinking what have I become?
(Everything's looking ahead now, and I really do fucking love you)
(Yeah)
The lyrics to Omar's song "You Need Me" depict his experiences navigating through the complexities of relationships and the struggles with addiction. The opening lines express a sense of relief and peace, indicating a positive shift in his life - possibly with newfound sobriety. However, the song also touches on the notion of self-doubt and confusion in relationships ("We never finish, so why should we start?"). He also references his perception of himself ("Thinking what have I become?") and the desperation for love and support from those around him ("Call me when you're faded, call me when you're home, and when you finally make it. You know I'll be on").
The repeated mention of drugs throughout the song emphasizes the grip addiction can have on individuals, and his references to different drugs - pop the bean like an ollie, sippin' lean, and not f*cking with molly - illustrate the pervasive culture and normalization of substance abuse in certain communities. Furthermore, the line "thinking that she's from NOLA" suggests that Omar may have a certain distrust for people who pretend to be something they're not.
