Origins
O Rappa got their start in 1993, when Jamaican reggae artist Papa Winnie arrived in Brazil for a series of show and needed a back up band to support him. Four people were immediately picked: Nelson Meirelles, a well-known Rio de Janeiro indie producer; Marcelo Lobato, former member of África Gumbe; Alexandre (Xandão) Menezes, a musician with African influences; and Marcelo Yuka, a prolific songwriter and member of KMD-5 at the time. After the shows with Winnie, the foursome decided to keep the band going and added a vocalist and fifth member, Marcelo Falcão, recruited through an ad in Rio’s main newspaper. In 1994, they released their first album, O Rappa, on the Warner label.
Tragedy
In 2001, Marcelo Lobato who was originally on keyboard had to take over drum duties after the band’s original drummer and main songwriter, Marcelo Yuka, was shot multiple times during a robbery near his house in Rio, which severely compromised movement in both his legs and one of his arms. Yuka has been the biggest contributor of the band's social projects for years, even after turning paralytic. He is currently working on other music projects such as F.Ur.T.O.

Quarta-feira, sexta-feira
Não importa a feira
É dia de feira
Quem quiser pode chegar
É dia de feira
Quarta-feira, sexta-feira
Não importa a feira
Quem quiser pode chegar
Vem maluco, vem madame
Vem Maurício, vem atriz
Pra comprar comigo
Vem maluco, vem madame
Vem Maurício, vem atriz
Pra levar comigo
'To vendendo ervas
Que curam e acalmam
'To vendendo ervas
Que aliviam e temperam
'To vendendo ervas
Que curam e acalmam
'To vendendo ervas
Que aliviam e temperam
Mas eu não sou autorizado
Quando o Rappa chega
Eu quase sempre escapo
Quem me fornece
É que ganha mais
A clientela é vasta, eu sei
Porque os remédios normais
Nem sempre amenizam a pressão
Amenizam a pressão
Amenizam a pressão
É dia de feira

The lyrics of O Rappa's song "A Feira" talk about a marketplace or fair that takes place on Wednesdays and Fridays, where anyone is welcome to come and buy goods, including herbs that heal and soothe. The seller is not authorized to sell these herbs, but he continues to do so regardless. He mentions that he usually escapes when "O Rappa" arrives, implying that they may be authorities or someone who could get him into trouble. He adds that the person who supplies him with the herbs makes more money because the clientele is large, indicating that people are looking for alternative remedies that conventional medicine may not be providing.
The song also mentions that conventional remedies do not always alleviate the pressure people feel, which may be a metaphor for stress or anxiety. The repetition of the phrase "amenizam a pressão" (alleviate the pressure) in the last stanza further emphasizes this point.
Overall, "A Feira" seems to be a commentary on the prevalence of alternative or unregulated remedies in Brazilian society and the distrust that some may have towards conventional medicine.
