Dream On
Oak Ridge Boys Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lay your head down on my shoulder
I won't let the night get colder
I'll protect you, I'll be keepin'
Trouble far from where you're sleepin'.

Until you wake in the mornin'
You've got the world to yourself.
[Chorus]
Dream on
Dream about the world we're gonna live in one fine day
Dream on
Spent the night in heaven I'll be here to light your way.
Someday tomorrow we'll smile
But little girl in the meanwhile
Dream on.

You're a princess chains around you
I'm a hero who just found you
'Til a brand new day must wake you
Let imagination take you

Go where the music is playing
I'll be along in awhile.

[Chorus]

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Oak Ridge Boys' song Dream On seem to be a lullaby or a song sung to a child. The lyrics paint a picture of a comforting and protective environment where the child can rest easy without any worries or fears. The singer promises to protect them and keep any troubles at bay while they sleep.

The chorus is a call to action, urging the child to dream of the world we will live in one fine day. This is a message of hope and encouragement, telling the child to imagine the better future that awaits us. The singer promises to be there to light their way, and although they may have to wait a while for that future, they should keep on dreaming until it becomes a reality.

The second verse continues the theme of the first, with the singer comparing the child to a princess with chains around her, and himself as a hero who has come to free her. He tells the child to let their imagination take them places where the music is playing and to wait for him to join them when he can.

Overall, the song Dream On is a gentle and reassuring message to a child that they are safe and loved, and encourages them to keep on dreaming of a better tomorrow.

The 'Mountain Man' looks completely different without his trademark beard and long hair.

Back when country music was truly country music. Music these days sounds horrid, screaming like a rock n roll song
