Alive
Oasis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Four Seasons, seconds, flicker, and flash, I'm alone
A lonely scream provides the scene, it's no hope
Every night I hear you scream, but you don't say what you mean
This was my dream, but now my dream has flown

I'm at the crossroads, waiting for a sign
My life is standing still, but I'm still alive
Every night I think I know
In the morning where did it go?
The answers disappear when I open my eyes

I'm no stranger to this place, where real life and dreams collide
And even though I fall from grace, I will keep the dream alive
I will keep the dream alive

Four Seasons, seconds, flicker, and flash, I'm alone
A lonely scream provides the scene, it's no hope
Every night I hear you scream, but you don't say what you mean
This was my dream, but now my dream has flown

I'm no stranger to this place, where real life and dreams collide
And even though I fall from grace, I will keep the dream alive

I'm no stranger to this place, where real life and dreams collide
And even though I fall from grace, I will keep the dream alive

Overall Meaning

In "Keep the Dream Alive," Oasis lead singer Liam Gallagher sings about feeling lost and alone, but holding onto hope and determination to keep his dreams alive. The opening lines, "Four Seasons, seconds, flicker, and flash, I'm alone / A lonely scream provides the scene, it's no hope" set a melancholy mood, with Gallagher feeling isolated and hopeless. He then reflects on his dreams and the disappointment of seeing them slip away: "This was my dream, but now my dream has flown."

The chorus brings a glimmer of hope, with Gallagher declaring that he will not give up on his dreams, even in the face of obstacles and setbacks. He sings, "I'm no stranger to this place, where real life and dreams collide / And even though I fall from grace, I will keep the dream alive." The repetition of this upbeat message reinforces the song's theme of perseverance and resilience.

Overall, "Keep the Dream Alive" is a poignant and introspective song about the twists and turns of life, and the importance of holding onto hope and determination in the face of adversity.

Many people that rate Oasis, be it positive or negative, had no idea of some of the songs they produced that flew under the radar and were never heard by most.
Rockin chair, It's good to be free, Headshrinker, Alive, Round are way, Acquiesce, Fade away, The Fame, Listen up, Stay young, Underneath the sky, Let's all make believe, D'yer wanna be a spaceman, Half the world away, Talk tonight, Take me away.
They could have been even bigger had they chosen their album songs more wisely (I mean who DOESN'T put a single like Whatever on one of the albums.)
Sadly this comment will be seen by very few, much like their B sides were.

@mayk6529

The Masterplan b side album is way too good

@CommonUnity

I love Liam's voice. Behind that coarse, laddie voice, there is sentimentality. Makes my eyes sweat ha

@willyc.8141

Love these words💙

@Revolver1981

Top notch tune man. Oasis b sides were always better than other bands a sides. Noel Gallagher is the greatest songwriter of the last 30 years.
