Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993 and released their record-setting debut album Definitely Maybe (1994). The following year they recorded (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995) with drummer Alan White, in the midst of a chart rivalry with peers Blur. Spending ten weeks at number one on the UK Albums Chart, (What's the Story) Morning Glory? was also an international chart success and became one of the best-selling albums of all time. In addition, it stands as the fifth-best-selling album in the UK and the biggest-selling album in the UK of the 1990s. The Gallagher brothers featured regularly in tabloid newspapers for their disputes and wild lifestyles. In 1996, Oasis performed two nights at Knebworth for an audience of 125,000 each time, the largest outdoor concerts in UK history at the time. In 1997, Oasis released their third album, Be Here Now. It became the fastest-selling album in UK chart history.
Oasis' popularity later declined and McGuigan and Arthurs left in 1999 as Oasis released Standing on the Shoulder of Giants (2000). They were replaced by former Heavy Stereo guitarist Gem Archer and former Ride guitarist Andy Bell. White departed in 2004, replaced by Zak Starkey and later Chris Sharrock. Oasis released three more studio albums, Heathen Chemistry (2002), Don't Believe the Truth (2005) and Dig Out Your Soul (2008). The group abruptly disbanded after the departure of Noel Gallagher in August 2009.
As of 2009, Oasis had sold over 70 million records worldwide. They are among the most successful acts on the UK Singles Chart and Albums Chart, with eight UK number-one singles and eight UK number-one albums. The band also achieved three platinum albums in the US. They won 17 NME Awards, nine Q Awards, four MTV Europe Music Awards and six Brit Awards, including one in 2007 for Outstanding Contribution to Music and one for the "Best Album of the Last 30 Years" for (What's the Story) Morning Glory?. They were nominated for two Grammy Awards.

D'Yer Wanna Be A Spaceman
Oasis Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Since I was Kid
Your bringing back those memories
Of the thing that we did
You're hanging round and climbing trees
Pretending to fly
D'yer want to be a spaceman and live in the sky
You got how many bills to pay
And you forgot
About the things that we did
The town where we're living
Has made you a man
And all of your dreams
Are washed in the sand
Well it's alright
It's alright
Who are you and me to say
What's wrong and what's right
Do you still feel like me
We sit down here
And we shall see
We can talk
And find common ground
And we can just forget
About feeling down
We can just forget
About life in this town.
It's funny how your dreams
Change as you're growing old
You don't want to be no spaceman
You just want gold
Allthe dream stealers
Are lying in wait
But if you want to be a spaceman
It's still not too late
Well it's alright
It's alright
Who are you and me to say
What's wrong and what's right
Do you still feel like me
We sit down here
And we shall see
We can talk
And find common ground
And we can just forget
About feeling down
We can just forget
About life in this town.
It's funny how your dreams
Change as you're growing old
You don't want to be no spaceman
You just want gold Dream stealers
Are lying in wait
But if you want to be a spaceman
It's still not too late
Well it's alright
It's alright
Who are you and me to say
What's wrong and what's right
Do you still feel like me
We sit down here
And we shall see
We can talk
And find common ground
And we can just forget
About feeling down
We can just forget
About life in this town
The song "D'Yer Wanna Be A Spaceman" by Oasis tells a story of nostalgia and the loss of childhood dreams. In the first verse, the singer talks to someone they haven't seen in a long time, someone from their childhood. They reminisce about climbing trees and pretending to fly, and then ask if the other person wants to be a spaceman and live in the sky. The second verse takes a more adult turn, as the singer asks how many bills the other person has to pay and how many kids they have. They assert that the town they live in has made them a man and that their dreams have been washed away. The chorus emphasizes that it's alright if their dreams change, but questions whether they still feel the same way as they did when they were children. The final verse encourages the listener not to let dream stealers get in their way and that it's never too late to be a spaceman.
The overall message of the song is that even though our dreams and priorities may change as we grow up and face the realities of life, it's important to hold onto our childhood wonder and not let others discourage us from pursuing our passions. It's a bittersweet reflection on the inevitability of growing up, but also a call to hold onto the part of us that still wants to believe in the impossible.
