Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993 and released their record-setting debut album Definitely Maybe (1994). The following year they recorded (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995) with drummer Alan White, in the midst of a chart rivalry with peers Blur. Spending ten weeks at number one on the UK Albums Chart, (What's the Story) Morning Glory? was also an international chart success and became one of the best-selling albums of all time. In addition, it stands as the fifth-best-selling album in the UK and the biggest-selling album in the UK of the 1990s. The Gallagher brothers featured regularly in tabloid newspapers for their disputes and wild lifestyles. In 1996, Oasis performed two nights at Knebworth for an audience of 125,000 each time, the largest outdoor concerts in UK history at the time. In 1997, Oasis released their third album, Be Here Now. It became the fastest-selling album in UK chart history.
Oasis' popularity later declined and McGuigan and Arthurs left in 1999 as Oasis released Standing on the Shoulder of Giants (2000). They were replaced by former Heavy Stereo guitarist Gem Archer and former Ride guitarist Andy Bell. White departed in 2004, replaced by Zak Starkey and later Chris Sharrock. Oasis released three more studio albums, Heathen Chemistry (2002), Don't Believe the Truth (2005) and Dig Out Your Soul (2008). The group abruptly disbanded after the departure of Noel Gallagher in August 2009.
As of 2009, Oasis had sold over 70 million records worldwide. They are among the most successful acts on the UK Singles Chart and Albums Chart, with eight UK number-one singles and eight UK number-one albums. The band also achieved three platinum albums in the US. They won 17 NME Awards, nine Q Awards, four MTV Europe Music Awards and six Brit Awards, including one in 2007 for Outstanding Contribution to Music and one for the "Best Album of the Last 30 Years" for (What's the Story) Morning Glory?. They were nominated for two Grammy Awards.

About the things caught in my mind
As the day was dawning my plane flew away
With all the things caught in my mind
And I want to be there when you're
Coming down
And I want to be there when you hit the ground
But say that you'll stay
Forever and a day in the time of my life
'Cause I need more time, yes, I need more time
Just to make things right
Damn my situation and the games I have to play
With all the things caught in my mind
Damn my education I can't find the words to say
About all the things caught in my mind
And I want to be there when you're
Coming down
And I want to be there when you hit the ground
So don't go away, say what you say
But say that you'll stay
Forever and a day in the time of my life
'Cause I need more time, yes, I need more time
Just to make things right
Me and you what's going on?
All we seem to know is how to show
The feelings that are wrong
So don't go away, say what you say
But say that you'll stay
Forever and a day in the time of my life
'Cause I need more time, yes, I need more time
Just to make things right
So don't go away, say what you say
But say that you'll stay
Forever and a day in the time of my life
'Cause I need more time, yes, I need more time
Just to make things right
Yes, I need more time
Just to make things right
Yes, I need more time
Just to make things right
So don't go away
The lyrics to Oasis's song, "Don't Go Away," tell the story of the singer's regrets and desire for more time to make things right in his relationship. The opening lines set the scene on a cold and frosty morning, and the singer laments the thoughts that keep him up at night, particularly the memory of watching his plane fly away on the morning of a fateful day. He hopes to be there for his partner during difficult times, and he pleads with them not to leave him, to stay and work things out.
The second verse highlights the singer's frustration. He believes that his situation and the games he has to play have caused him to make unforgivable mistakes. He feels unable to communicate his emotions effectively, despite his education, and wishes he could find the words to say to express his feelings. The chorus echoes his plea for more time to make amends and set things right, and he asks his partner to remain in his life forever.
The final stanza is a plea for communication between the two parties. The singer is aware that their relationship has been built on expressing the wrong emotions, and he wants to fix that by trying to show his partner how much they mean to him. He reiterates his desire for them to remain together forever, and once again pleads for more time.

Lyrics:
Slip inside the eye of your mind
Don't you know you might find
A better place to play
You said that you'd never been
But all the things that you've seen
Slowly fade away
So I start a revolution from my bed
'Cause you said the brains I had went to my head
Step outside, summertime's in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off your face
You ain't ever gonna burn my heart out
And so Sally can wait
She knows it's too late
As we're walking on by
Her soul slides away
But don't look back in anger
I heard you say
Take me to the place where you go
Where nobody knows
If it's night or day
But please don't put your life in the hands
Of a rock and roll band
Who'll throw it all away
I'm gonna start a revolution from my bed
'Cause you said the brains I had went to my head
Step outside 'cause summertime's in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off your face
'Cause you ain't ever gonna burn my heart out
And so Sally can wait
She knows it's too late
As she's walking on by
My soul slides away
But don't look back in anger
I heard you say
So Sally can wait
She knows it's too late
As we're walking on by
Her soul slides away
But don't look back in anger

So Sally can wait
She knows it's too late
As she's walking on by
My soul slides away
But don't look back in anger
Don't look back in anger
