Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993 and released their record-setting debut album Definitely Maybe (1994). The following year they recorded (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995) with drummer Alan White, in the midst of a chart rivalry with peers Blur. Spending ten weeks at number one on the UK Albums Chart, (What's the Story) Morning Glory? was also an international chart success and became one of the best-selling albums of all time. In addition, it stands as the fifth-best-selling album in the UK and the biggest-selling album in the UK of the 1990s. The Gallagher brothers featured regularly in tabloid newspapers for their disputes and wild lifestyles. In 1996, Oasis performed two nights at Knebworth for an audience of 125,000 each time, the largest outdoor concerts in UK history at the time. In 1997, Oasis released their third album, Be Here Now. It became the fastest-selling album in UK chart history.
Oasis' popularity later declined and McGuigan and Arthurs left in 1999 as Oasis released Standing on the Shoulder of Giants (2000). They were replaced by former Heavy Stereo guitarist Gem Archer and former Ride guitarist Andy Bell. White departed in 2004, replaced by Zak Starkey and later Chris Sharrock. Oasis released three more studio albums, Heathen Chemistry (2002), Don't Believe the Truth (2005) and Dig Out Your Soul (2008). The group abruptly disbanded after the departure of Noel Gallagher in August 2009.
As of 2009, Oasis had sold over 70 million records worldwide. They are among the most successful acts on the UK Singles Chart and Albums Chart, with eight UK number-one singles and eight UK number-one albums. The band also achieved three platinum albums in the US. They won 17 NME Awards, nine Q Awards, four MTV Europe Music Awards and six Brit Awards, including one in 2007 for Outstanding Contribution to Music and one for the "Best Album of the Last 30 Years" for (What's the Story) Morning Glory?. They were nominated for two Grammy Awards.

Don't Go Away
Oasis Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
About the things caught in my mind
And as the day was dawning my plane flew away
With all the things caught in my mind
And I want to be there when you're
Coming down
And I want to be there when you hit the ground
Say that you'll stay
Forever and a day in the time of my life
'Cause I need more time, yes, I need more time
Just to make things right
Damn my situation and the games I have to play
With all the things caught in my mind
Damn my education I can't find the words to say
With all the things caught in my mind
And I want to be there when you're
Coming down
And I want to be there when you hit the ground
So don't go away, say what you say
Say that you'll stay
Forever and a day in the time of my life
'Cause I need more time, yes, I need more time
Just to make things right
Me and you, what's going on?
All we seem to know is how to show
The feelings that are wrong
So don't go away, say what you say
Say that you'll stay
Forever and a day in the time of my life
'Cause I need more time, yes, I need more time
Just to make things right
And don't go away, say what you say
Say that you'll stay
Forever and a day in the time of my life
'Cause I need more time, yes, I need more time
Just to make things right
Yes, I need more time
Just to make things right
Yes, I need more time
Just to make things right
So don't go away
The lyrics of Oasis's song Don't Go Away describe the feelings of regret, love, and the desire to fix past mistakes. The song is about a man who is heartbroken by a recent departure of a loved one, possibly a girlfriend, who has left him alone to face the harsh realities of his life. The singer is trapped in his own thoughts and wishes he could have done things differently. He laments his actions that led to the breakup, regrets his lack of education, and blames himself for his situation. He acknowledges that he needs more time to make things right, hence, the plea for the other person to stay and not go away.
The chorus of the song is perhaps the most emotional part with the words "So don't go away, say what you say, say that you'll stay, forever and a day in the time of my life, 'Cause I need more time, yes, I need more time, just to make things right". The lines indicate the singer's plea and hopeless desire for the loved one to stay, to say what they have to say, and to stay by his side forever, even though he knows it is already too late.
Oasis's Don't Go Away is an emotional song that perfectly captures the feeling of heartbreak, regret, love and the desire to make things right. It is a powerful reminder of the importance of cherishing the moments we have with people we love, the importance of education, and the consequences of our actions.

Why some people don’t like the Be Here Now album is a mystery to me

The songs are too long and overproduced but they’re still better than the subsequent albums. This was the last album when Noel could actually write good songs. He lost his ability after this!

People hate the vocals, for one. Liam does sound noticeably more nasally, but as a big Lennon fan, I like it.

What a great song. Some of Noel's best lyrics, I dare say.
