Don't Look Back In Anger
Oasis Lyrics

Don't you know you might find
A better place to play
You said that you'd never been
But all the things that you've seen
Slowly fade away
So I start a revolution from my bed
Step outside, summertime's in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off your face
You ain't ever gonna burn my heart out
And so Sally can wait
She knows it's too late
As we're walking on by
Her soul slides away
But don't look back in anger
I heard you say
Take me to the place where you go
Where nobody knows
If it's night or day
But please don't put your life in the hands
Of a rock and roll band
Who'll throw it all away
I'm gonna start a revolution from my bed
'Cause you said the brains I had went to my head
Step outside 'cause summertime's in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off your face
'Cause you ain't ever gonna burn my heart out
And so Sally can wait
She knows it's too late
As she's walking on by
My soul slides away
But don't look back in anger
I heard you say
So Sally can wait
She knows it's too late
As we're walking on by
Her soul slides away
But don't look back in anger
I heard you say
So Sally can wait
She knows it's too late
As she's walking on by
My soul slides away
But don't look back in anger
Don't look back in anger
I heard you say
At least not today
The song "Don't Look Back in Anger" by Oasis is often interpreted as a call to move on from the past and look toward the future with a positive attitude. The lyrics "slip inside the eye of your mind" and "take me to the place where you go, where nobody knows if it's night or day" encourage the listener to escape from reality and imagine a better place to play, a place where there is no anger or regret. The chorus "but don't look back in anger, I heard you say" is a message of hope and redemption, urging the listener not to dwell on the mistakes of the past but to focus on the present and future instead.
The second verse contains the iconic lines "So I start a revolution from my bed 'cause you said the brains I had went to my head." The band has stated that these lines were inspired by John Lennon's song "Mind Games," particularly the line "make a psychedelic out of yourself." Oasis lead singer Liam Gallagher has said that he interpreted this as Lennon telling him to use his mind and creativity to make a difference in the world. The reference to summertime and standing beside the fireplace evoke a sense of warmth and comfort, further emphasizing the idea of finding peace and contentment in the present moment.

I was 14 when this song came out, we had to wait hours just to see this vid on MTV, we had no internet. I found the lyrics on a magazine, I ripped the page and put it on the wall, it was golden to me. We used to sing their songs while coming home from school. We didn't know but it was the best fckin time of our lives, thank you Oasis for growing up with us.

It's like these guys captured the soul of The Beatles and updated it to the 90's. They're one of the most awesome bands ever. When you listen to an Oasis song it's like they're completely in charge of your emotions.

Noel Gallaghar says he doesn't understand these lyrics himself: "I get the odd night when I'm halfway through Don't Look Back In Anger when I say to myself 'I still don't know what these words mean!' I'm thinking what the... what the... 'stand up beside the fireplace'. Why? And all these kids will be singing it at the top of their voices with all their arms around each other and I kind of feel like stopping and going, 'Look, can somebody help me out here? Am I missing something?'" Epic!
