Four Letter Word
Oasis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sleepwalk away your life
If that turns you on
It's only a moment
Look away and it's gone
It's about time
That your mind took a holiday
You're all grown up
Don't you ever wanna play?
You've had enough
Staring out of those deaden eyes
It's gonna be tough
The battle's on and your soul's the prize
I don't know what it is I'm feeling
A four letter word really get's my meaning
Nothing ever lasts forever
Get on your feeling
Going out of our minds
The wheels needs to roll
The clock on the wall says it's time
Call it love
Call it whatever you please
It's not what you want
It be might just what you need
You've had enough
It feels like you've blown
A 50amp fuse
It's gonna be tough
The more you have
The more you can loose
I don't know what it is I'm feeling
A four letter word really get's my meaning
Nothing ever lasts forever
You've had enough
Staring out of those deaden eyes
It's gonna be tough
The battle's on and your soul's the prize
I don't know what it is I'm feeling
A four letter word really get's my meaning
Nothing ever lasts forever
Nothing ever lasts forever

Nothing ever lasts forever
Nothing ever lasts forever

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Oasis's song "Four Letter Word" talk about letting go of worries and enjoying life, with the chorus centered around the idea that there is a four letter word with significant meaning but undefined. The opening lines encourage the listener to sleepwalk away their life if that's what makes them happy - a moment would be gone if they looked away from it. The song suggests that it's time for their mind to take a holiday, even though they've grown up. They are encouraged to "play" instead of staring out with dead eyes. The song emphasizes living the moment and enjoying life.

The lines "I don't know what it is I'm feeling, a four-letter word really gets my meaning. Nothing ever lasts forever" are the focal point of the song. The suggestions are that the listener might not be able to define what they're feeling but a four-letter word seems apt to describe it. This could be many different things, such as love or lust. The lyrics acknowledge that nothing lasts forever, and the song's implication is that the listener should enjoy it while they can.

Overall, the song's meaning is to live life to the fullest and not worry about the past or future. The listener is encouraged to embrace the moment, play, and cherish what they have. It reflects the typical Oasis style of embracing youth, hedonism, and the idea of having a good time.

It's indeed a shame Beady Eye are no longer. They were quickly becoming my new favorite band. I'm American and bought both special deluxe CD's overseas because somehow our music shops (the little which remain) don't carry them. I've been a fan of Oasis since the band's formation. It was truly a sad day for me. Liam is an inspiration. When Noel walked out he seized the reigns and carried on. That takes guts. Liam's example helped me tackle many things in my life.

I've read troll comments joking him because of his recent hair loss and custody battle was it (??). And the never ending 'his voice isn't the same since..blah, blah, fucking blah. Everyone ages, everyone has problems. Nobody's perfect. Being American I may be the odd one out here but fuck all the whiners and haters. You are one to give LIAM GALLAGHER advise lol...please!!

Thank you Liam for all the lessons you taught me about seizing opportunity (Just Sayin..etc), and showing you have kick ass music writing skills too. Hopefully we'll see you again sometime in the near future. If not a fresh Oasis (God we all pray) then maybe a solo career??

Anyway...wishing you nothing but good things.

SOUL LOVE!!! ;)
