Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993 and released their record-setting debut album Definitely Maybe (1994). The following year they recorded (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995) with drummer Alan White, in the midst of a chart rivalry with peers Blur. Spending ten weeks at number one on the UK Albums Chart, (What's the Story) Morning Glory? was also an international chart success and became one of the best-selling albums of all time. In addition, it stands as the fifth-best-selling album in the UK and the biggest-selling album in the UK of the 1990s. The Gallagher brothers featured regularly in tabloid newspapers for their disputes and wild lifestyles. In 1996, Oasis performed two nights at Knebworth for an audience of 125,000 each time, the largest outdoor concerts in UK history at the time. In 1997, Oasis released their third album, Be Here Now. It became the fastest-selling album in UK chart history.
Oasis' popularity later declined and McGuigan and Arthurs left in 1999 as Oasis released Standing on the Shoulder of Giants (2000). They were replaced by former Heavy Stereo guitarist Gem Archer and former Ride guitarist Andy Bell. White departed in 2004, replaced by Zak Starkey and later Chris Sharrock. Oasis released three more studio albums, Heathen Chemistry (2002), Don't Believe the Truth (2005) and Dig Out Your Soul (2008). The group abruptly disbanded after the departure of Noel Gallagher in August 2009.
As of 2009, Oasis had sold over 70 million records worldwide. They are among the most successful acts on the UK Singles Chart and Albums Chart, with eight UK number-one singles and eight UK number-one albums. The band also achieved three platinum albums in the US. They won 17 NME Awards, nine Q Awards, four MTV Europe Music Awards and six Brit Awards, including one in 2007 for Outstanding Contribution to Music and one for the "Best Album of the Last 30 Years" for (What's the Story) Morning Glory?. They were nominated for two Grammy Awards.

Where I stop and I turn and I go for a ride
Get to the bottom and I see you again
Yeah yeah yeah
Do you, don't you want me to love you ?
I'm coming down fast but I'm miles above you
Tell me tell me tell me the answer
Helter skelter
Helter skelter
Helter skelter
Do you, don't you want me to make you ?
I'm coming down fast but don't let me break you
Tell me tell me tell me the answer
You may be a lover but you ain't no dancer
Look out
Helter skelter
Helter skelter
Helter skelter
When I get to the bottom I go back to the top of my slide
Where I stop and I turn and I go for a ride
Get to the bottom and I see you again
Yeah yeah yeah
Do you, don't you want me to love you ?
I'm coming down fast but I'm miles above you
Tell me tell me tell me the answer
You may be a lover but you ain't no dancer
Helter skelter
Helter skelter
Helter skelter
Helter skelter
Helter skelter
Helter skelter
You're coming down fast
Yeah you're coming down fast
You're coming down fast
You're coming down fast
You're coming down fast
Yeah yeah yeah
The lyrics to Oasis's song Helter Skelter are an allusion to the Beatles' track of the same name, and it's a song that speaks to the excitement and uncertainty of romantic pursuit. The opening stanza is about the thrill of the chase, the feeling of being on the verge of catching someone you're after, but always coming just short. It's an exchange of energy, one person leading the dance and the other following. The lyrics highlight the thrill of the chase and the back-and-forth that characterizes many romantic relationships as they develop. Despite the sense of danger and unpredictability that comes with this dynamic, the singer is ready to take the ride and see where it takes him.
The chorus, a series of "Helter Skelter" refrains, sounds playful and relatively harmless, but it also has a darker connotation in light of the context within which the song was written - the notorious Manson murders. Helter skelter was the term that Charles Manson used to describe an apocalyptic race war that he believed was imminent and that he hoped to instigate. Although it's unclear if the members of Oasis were aware of this context, the song's refrain has taken on a new meaning for many listeners in the years since its release.
Overall, "Helter Skelter" is a song about the excitement, uncertainty, and danger of love, set against a backdrop of playful, upbeat rock music.
