Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993 and released their record-setting debut album Definitely Maybe (1994). The following year they recorded (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995) with drummer Alan White, in the midst of a chart rivalry with peers Blur. Spending ten weeks at number one on the UK Albums Chart, (What's the Story) Morning Glory? was also an international chart success and became one of the best-selling albums of all time. In addition, it stands as the fifth-best-selling album in the UK and the biggest-selling album in the UK of the 1990s. The Gallagher brothers featured regularly in tabloid newspapers for their disputes and wild lifestyles. In 1996, Oasis performed two nights at Knebworth for an audience of 125,000 each time, the largest outdoor concerts in UK history at the time. In 1997, Oasis released their third album, Be Here Now. It became the fastest-selling album in UK chart history.
Oasis' popularity later declined and McGuigan and Arthurs left in 1999 as Oasis released Standing on the Shoulder of Giants (2000). They were replaced by former Heavy Stereo guitarist Gem Archer and former Ride guitarist Andy Bell. White departed in 2004, replaced by Zak Starkey and later Chris Sharrock. Oasis released three more studio albums, Heathen Chemistry (2002), Don't Believe the Truth (2005) and Dig Out Your Soul (2008). The group abruptly disbanded after the departure of Noel Gallagher in August 2009.
As of 2009, Oasis had sold over 70 million records worldwide. They are among the most successful acts on the UK Singles Chart and Albums Chart, with eight UK number-one singles and eight UK number-one albums. The band also achieved three platinum albums in the US. They won 17 NME Awards, nine Q Awards, four MTV Europe Music Awards and six Brit Awards, including one in 2007 for Outstanding Contribution to Music and one for the "Best Album of the Last 30 Years" for (What's the Story) Morning Glory?. They were nominated for two Grammy Awards.

I Hope I Think I Know
Oasis Lyrics

And that is why I gotta keep running
The future's mine and it's no disgrace
'Cause in the end the past means nothing
You tell me I'm free then you tie me down
And from my chains I think it's a pity
What did it cost you to wear my crown?
I feel a little down today
And I ain't got much to say
But you're gonna miss me when I'm not there
You know I don't care
You know I don't care
As we beg and steal and borrow
Life is hit and miss and this
I hope, I think, I know
If I ever hear the names you call
And if I stumble, catch me when I fall
'Cause baby after all
You'll never forget my name
You'll never forget my name
You're trying hard to put me in my place
And that is why I gotta keep running
The future's mine and it's your disgrace
'Cause in the end your laugh means nothing
D'you feel a little down today
Bet you ain't got much to say
Who's gonna miss you when you're not there
You know we don't care
You know we don't care
'Cause as we beg and steal and borrow
Life is hit and miss and this
I hope, I think, I know
If I ever hear the names you call
And if I stumble, catch me when I fall
'Cause baby after all
You'll never forget my name
You'll never forget my name (Woo!)
As we beg and steal and borrow
Life is hit and miss and this
I hope, I think, I know
If I ever hear the names you call
And if I stumble, catch me when I fall
'Cause baby after all
You'll never forget my name
You'll never forget my name
You'll never forget my name
You'll never forget my name
You'll never forget my name
The lyrics to "I Hope I Think I Know" by Oasis seems to talk about standing up against oppressive forces and those who try to put you down. It speaks of the need to keep running and not let others dictate your future. The opening line, "They're trying hard to put me in my place" signifies the presence of an external force trying to control the singer's destiny. Despite this, the singer claims ownership over the future and states that the past holds no power over him. The second verse shows the singer questioning the intentions of the person trying to tie him down and take over. The line, "What did it cost you to wear my crown?" is a rhetorical question asked to the oppressor, highlighting the cost of their actions. The chorus emphasizes the idea that life is uncertain and that the singer is hopeful, thinking, and knowing that they will rise above it all.
The second verse is then followed by a bridge that switches focus from the singer's struggles to those of the people around him. As they beg, steal, and borrow, the lyricist interprets their existence as "hit and miss" with a feeling of despair. Yet, the singer remains hopeful and certain of their ability to rise above it all. It is also revealed that the oppressor in the song may be someone close to the singer, as the line "Bet you ain't got much to say/Who's gonna miss you when you're not there" indicates that they know the ins and outs of the person they are speaking to.
Overall, "I Hope I Think I Know" is an anthem about being in control of your future amidst the obstacles and challenges that come your way. It encourages one to rise above the noise and the negativity and to never forget their own name.

Sloop John B
Such a damn good song, this could've been a single easy. It has such a summer-y vibe, I could see myself walking around on a bright summer day listening to this with a hop in my step.

Should have been the lead single
