Who Put The Weight Of The World On My Shoulders
Oasis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Who put the weight of the world on my shoulders?
Who put the lies in the truth that you sold us?

Lost behind a silver screen
are all the things you could've been to us

So don't try to f**k up my head with your problems
I'm just tryin' to fix up my bed in the doldrums

Lost behind a silver screen
are all the things you could've been in Love and Life soooooo

(Chorus)
Help me out my friend
My head just started to hurt
I don't pretend
I've got all of the time in the world
So now she's gone
all alone in her own universe
I still walk on
'Til I hold you within my world

Help me out my friend
My head just started to hurt
I won't pretend
I've got all of the time in the world
So now she's gone
all alone in her own universe
I still walk on
'Til I hold you within my world

Who put the weight of the world on my shoulders?
Who put the lies in the truth that you sold us?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Oasis's song "Who Put The Weight Of The World On My Shoulders" are quite straightforward, as they express a feeling of being burdened by the weight of the world's problems and lies. The song is a reflection of how the world seems to weigh heavily on the singer's mind and how these problems come in the form of lies that have been sold to the people. The first line asks the question "Who put the weight of the world on my shoulders?" in a rhetorical manner, indicating that the singer cannot identify any one individual, but rather sees it as a collective burden. The second line, "Who put the lies in the truth that you sold us?" is again rhetorical and suggests that people have been lied to and fed false information for so long that it is difficult to distinguish truth from lies.

The next two lines, "Lost behind a silver screen, are all the things you could've been to us," seem to criticize the media and its manipulation of the truth, concealing the potential of individuals who strive to create positive change in the world. The refrain, "Help me out my friend, my head just started to hurt / I don't pretend, I've got all of the time in the world / So now she's gone, all alone in her own universe / I still walk on, 'til I hold you within my world," seems to express a longing for someone who has left and the need for support from friends during this time of struggle.

Overall, "Who Put The Weight Of The World On My Shoulders" is a song that speaks to the burdens and struggles of everyday life, whether it be through the constant pressure of societal expectations or the bombardment of misinformation by media outlets. In a sense, it is a call for people to band together and fight against the injustices of the world.

This gem wasn't even released like a B-side. Madness.
Who in their right mind wouldn't make a single out of this? I'm speechless.

subterreanhighrise yes I agree, madness, and it doesn't sounds poorly lyricized either, wonder why

Noel said in one interview that he wanted the B-sides to be a treasured rarity by fans in the future. Let's be fair, everybody knows 'Wonderwall', 'Dont look back in anger' and 'champagne supernova' but songs like this are for the few dedicated fans who could discover them. I doubt he realised just how amazing the B-sides were though.

Ryan Sams

Oasis' downfall was always treating some of their best songs as throwaway tracks.

@Ryan Sams its a simple game of genius, they had millions. And the b-sides were written because of noels love for the art, no liam involved. Pure unadulterated Noel Gallagher

@SLEWY this ain't a b side it's a tune of that shite film goal!
