Zona Militar
Obús Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

No puede pasarme
Esto no es real
Sólo es un mal sueño
Nada es realidad

No es verdad, no es verdad
Nada puede ser verdad
En esta carta dice
Que me debo presentar
Lo que tenga que alegar
Lo tendré que demostrar

Lejos de mi piba
Fuera de lugar
Lejos de la peña
Zona militar

Doce largos meses
Sin tener identidad
Un número, una gorra
Un petate y poco más
Hoy de guardia en polvorín
Y mañana sin salir

Tú sabes ya de qué te hablo
Izquierda un, dos, un
No entiendo qué demonios hago
Y sigo aquí marcando el paso
Qué demonios hago

Lejos de mi piba
Fuera de lugar
Lejos de la peña
Zona militar

No es verdad, no es verdad
Nada puede ser verdad
Llevo aquí seis meses
Y esto nunca va a acabar
No parece terminar
Una historia sin final

Tú sabes ya de qué te hablo
Izquierda un, dos, un
No entiendo qué demonios hago
Y sigo aquí marcando el paso
Qué demonios hago

Tú sabes ya de qué te hablo
Izquierda un, dos, un
No entiendo qué demonios hago

Y sigo aquí marcando el paso
Qué demonios hago

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Obús's Zona Militar speak of being forced into military service, separated from loved ones and thrust into an alien world where one's identity is stripped away. The singer of the song finds himself in a nightmare that he cannot wake up from. He receives a notice to present himself for service and is compelled to obey, despite his misgivings. He is now trapped in a regimented environment where he is told what to do every minute of the day, and where his identity is reduced to a number and a hat. His life is put on hold for 12 long months and his future is uncertain. The song's chorus questions the reality of the situation, trying to come to terms with the absurdity of it all.

The second verse delves deeper into the singer's feelings of alienation and isolation. He is physically separated from his loved ones, unable to connect with his peers, and stuck in a military camp or "zona militar". He describes himself as having "no identity", reduced to a mere number and a hat. The verse ends with a recognition that this life is not going to end anytime soon, and he will be stuck in a "story without an ending."

Overall, the song paints a bleak picture of military life, with its regimented routine, boredom and isolation. The singer feels trapped and hopeless, with no control over his own life. Obús shines a light on the sacrifices that many young people made during Spain's compulsory military service, which was only abolished in 2001.
