Obituary is listed by Nielsen Soundscan as the fifth best-selling death metal band of all time and their albums have sold 368,184 copies. Their 1992 release "The End Complete" has also more than 103,378 copies in the United States alone.
After 1997's Back from the Dead album, the band had grown tired of touring which led to the band disbanding. During the hiatus, Donald Tardy played in Andrew W.K.'s touring band (during W.K.'s appearance on Saturday Night Live Tardy wore an Obituary shirt). Allen West focused on his two projects, Lowbrow and Six Feet Under while not playing in Obituary. Trevor Peres formed Catastrophic in 2001. The band reformed in 2003 and Catastrophic continued to exist alongside the reformed Obituary. Catastrophic released one album, The Cleansing, in 2001. Obituary's reunion album, Frozen in Time was released in 2005. The band's first live DVD, "Frozen Alive", was released in January of 2007.
Obituary are currently signed to Candlelight Records for their seventh album Xecutioner's Return, which was released on August 28, 2007.
Obituary's guitarist, Allen West, was recently imprisoned for D.U.I. (driving under the influence of alcohol) and released in January 2008. During his incarceration, Ralph Santolla served as West's replacement. It is uncertain at this time whether or not West will be returning to the band.

Don't Care
Obituary Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
where I feed the living hearts
I got a torch to light
Feel these smelter fires burn
Chorus:
I don't care what they say !
I don't care ! I'll do what I want !
I am by your side
No way, I don't fear
Slow down, follow in my grave
Repeat Chorus
Your ways, I despise
Go forth and get with your own kind
We've got fumes to behold
Setting, one size of fortune
Farewell to great friends
these will face the burning sun
tattoed shadows lifted
Fear not, like the burning plague !
Repeat chorus
Bright light the sear his face
Pitfalls twisted
Call me far from now
I survived through all this hell
I DON'T CARE !!!
DON'T CARE !!!!!
I really don't care !
The lyrics of Obituary's song "Don't Care" convey a sense of defiance and confidence in one's own decisions and actions. The singer rejects the opinions and judgment of others and chooses to follow their own path, even if it means going against societal norms or expectations. The opening lines suggest a disregard for the well-being of others ("don't do well where I feed the living hearts"), which could be interpreted as a metaphor for the singer's willingness to prioritize their own desires and goals over the needs of others. The reference to a torch and smelter fires creates an image of intense heat and intensity, hinting at the singer's determination and passion.
The chorus serves as a recurring declaration of the singer's independence and autonomy - they don't care what others say or think, and they will do what they want regardless. The line "I am by your side, tell me you think what to do" could be interpreted as either a challenge or an invitation to someone else to try and influence the singer's choices, but ultimately the singer affirms that they do not fear any outside pressure. The line "slow down, follow in my grave" could be read as a warning or threat to anyone who tries to interfere with the singer, indicating that they are willing to take risks and face danger.
The second half of the song shifts to a more abstract and poetic tone, with references to fumes, shadows, and a burning sun. The line "farewell to great friends, these will face the burning sun" suggests a sense of finality or separation from those who do not share the singer's outlook on life. However, the final lines of the song - "I survived through all this hell, I DON'T CARE!!!" - assert that the singer's stubbornness and defiance have allowed them to endure and thrive in the face of adversity.

28 years ago I got this cd. Wasn’t the fast stuff that I wanted (at the time), but it grew on me. A hard death metal grind👍
