Obituary is listed by Nielsen Soundscan as the fifth best-selling death metal band of all time and their albums have sold 368,184 copies. Their 1992 release "The End Complete" has also more than 103,378 copies in the United States alone.
After 1997's Back from the Dead album, the band had grown tired of touring which led to the band disbanding. During the hiatus, Donald Tardy played in Andrew W.K.'s touring band (during W.K.'s appearance on Saturday Night Live Tardy wore an Obituary shirt). Allen West focused on his two projects, Lowbrow and Six Feet Under while not playing in Obituary. Trevor Peres formed Catastrophic in 2001. The band reformed in 2003 and Catastrophic continued to exist alongside the reformed Obituary. Catastrophic released one album, The Cleansing, in 2001. Obituary's reunion album, Frozen in Time was released in 2005. The band's first live DVD, "Frozen Alive", was released in January of 2007.
Obituary are currently signed to Candlelight Records for their seventh album Xecutioner's Return, which was released on August 28, 2007.
Obituary's guitarist, Allen West, was recently imprisoned for D.U.I. (driving under the influence of alcohol) and released in January 2008. During his incarceration, Ralph Santolla served as West's replacement. It is uncertain at this time whether or not West will be returning to the band.

Final Thoughts
Obituary Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Sigh on to you
Sigh on to you My friend
Fell thoughts of soul's descend
Final Thoughts
Sigh on to you My friend
The pain hurts the fear inside
Kill be the weak to ride
Countdown to fossil down
Show Me the cancerous meltdown
???, the architects of life
???
Final Thoughts
Sigh on to you My friend
Might be is this the end
Sigh on to you
Sigh on to you
Final Thoughts
The lyrics of Obituary's song Final Thoughts are very dark and introspective. The opening lines "Sigh on to you just lost the blow, Sigh on to you" seem to suggest that the singer has just received some devastating news or experience, something that has left them feeling deeply despondent. They address their "friend" directly, asking "Might be is this the end?" implying that they may be struggling with some life-changing decision or situation. As the song progresses, the lyrics become increasingly grim, with references to "the pain", "fear inside" and "the weak to ride".
The final sequence of lyrics is perhaps the most mysterious, with lines like "Countdown to fossil down" and "Show me the cancerous meltdown". It seems that the singer is grappling with some immense existential questions about death, decay, and the purpose of human life. The lines "???, the architects of life, ???" are particularly enigmatic, and leave the listener to speculate on what sort of "architects" the singer is referring to - perhaps some sort of divine or mystical force that governs the universe, or maybe a more abstract concept like fate or destiny.
Overall, the song Final Thoughts is a heavy and contemplative meditation on mortality, suffering, and the human condition. The lyrics offer few answers but instead invite the listener to join the singer in their existential uncertainty and anguish.

This album has made me who i am to day. A vile misanthropic sadist free-ruling citizen of the world. Hail to everyone who thinks Obituary is great.
