If I Could Fly
Oceanlab Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A thousand people on the street
The rain is trying to drown my feet
The cold bites into every bone

The solemn faces pass me by
The grave near on buried smiles
A crowded train to take me home
If I close my eyes a minute
See a world within a minute
Standing on the road
My wings to take me high

If I could fly
See the world beneath me
Feel as though I'm set free
Oh, if I could fly

A simple smile can change a day
An understanding look can say
I know exactly how u feel

But we have learned to build our walls
So very strong and very tall
For fear of what the world might steal

If I close my eyes a minute
See a world within a minute
Standing on the road
My wings to take me high

If I could fly
See the world beneath me
Feel as though I'm set free
Oh, if I could fly

If I could fly
See the world beneath me

Feel as though I'm set free
Oh, If I could fly

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Oceanlab's song "If I Could Fly" depict a sense of isolation and longing for freedom. The persona in the song is surrounded by people, yet is alone and detached from them. The rain and cold further emphasize this feeling of disconnection, making it all the more difficult to feel alive. The idea of flying is introduced as a metaphor for freedom, a way to escape from the heaviness of reality. The persona wishes to soar above the world, looking down upon it and feeling as though they are truly free.

The second verse of the song discusses the importance of human connection, yet how we often build barriers to protect ourselves. Walls are erected, not to keep people out, but ultimately to keep ourselves from being hurt. We are afraid of the unknown, of what the world may take from us, and so we hide behind our protective walls. The persona wonders if the freedom they long for can only be obtained by tearing down these walls and connecting with the world around them.

Overall, "If I Could Fly" is a powerful song that speaks to the human desire for freedom and connection. The lyrics are relatable and tug at the heartstrings, while the music beautifully captures the sense of longing and hopefulness that permeates the song.

I've owned this album for years and it's still played regularly. The purity of justine suissa voice is just something else.

What about the one on ATB “ecstasy “ ?

@doublevision2943

At first I only knew about "on a good day" and I enjoyed it a lot. Then randomly years later I found the Sirens of the Sea album and I was blown away when I heard some of the songs, this one is probably my favourite.

This song is exactly what appears when I think of Trance, it combines all that I love about the genre and the way it makes you feel.
