Embrace Nothingness
Oceano Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ridges inbed in skin,
Would you miss me if I were dead?
Hurt mutually if I bled?
Reminisce of times shared,
Would my memorial be remissable upon decay?
I'm forgettable anyway...

I'm not a prophet nor a poet,
Struggled but lived life to it's fullest,
In hopes that someday someone might notice,
I'm not afraid to live and don't fear death!

I'm not scared of being alone.
Long since grown numb to the world.
My only fear's not being remembered.
Or mourned for beyond the grave.
Because I'm already fading away.
Falling further into nothingness's embrace.

There is nothing beyond the grave,
The afterlife's not what they say,
Stone walls of black and grey.
(2x)

Embrace nothingness.
(2x)

Embrace.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Oceano's song Embrace Nothingness express thoughts and feelings about mortality and the fear of being forgotten. The opening line "Ridges inbed in skin" appears to reference the physical effects of aging and the toll it takes on the body. The following lines "Would you miss me if I were dead? Hurt mutually if I bled?" suggests a desire to be remembered and mourned, but also a sense of ambivalence about it. The lyrics continue with "Reminisce of times shared, would my memorial be remissable upon decay? I'm forgettable anyway..." this further highlights the idea that even if someone were remembered, eventually they will be forgotten, and the memorial erected for them would fade away with time.

The second stanza of the lyrics speaks of the artist's own life and what they have accomplished. He or she isn't a prophet or a poet, but is someone who has lived their life to its fullest. The lyric "In hopes that someday someone might notice" suggests a desire for recognition or significance that is, unfortunately, elusive. Continuing, the artist declares "I'm not afraid to live and don't fear death!" It is said with a sense of defiance, suggesting that the artist isn't afraid of the idea of no longer existing in the world.

The final lines of the song make the artist's position clear. They are not "scared of being alone", nor are they afraid of death itself. Pain has left them numb, and they're concerned only that their existence might be forgotten, simply fading away. The song finishes with the lines “There is nothing beyond the grave, the afterlife's not what they say, Stone walls of black and gray. Embrace nothingness”. These lines suggest the artist's belief that there is, in fact, nothing beyond death, and that ultimately we are all destined to return to nothingness.

This album was pretty much flawless. SOOOO brutal and well put together and then the deep and sad sound of this song and others offers an interesting sound for them and gives a good brake in the album. Hails to oceano~ \m/

I like how they took a completely different approach on this song

Shatterspree

The beginning of this song sounds strikingly similar to the Song of Healing reversed in the Ocarina of Time.
I think that’s the intent, because I think Oceano are Nintendo buffs. Might just be coincidence. I love Oceano. So much emotion in their music.
