Stress
Odd Børre Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tid... tid... tid... tid... tid, siste bussen går

Men én gang, kanskje neste år
Skal vi få tid til alle ting
Én gang, kanskje neste år
Ta alt med ro, bare rusle omkring

Ma... ma... ma... ma... ma... ma... mange flere
Sa... sa... sa... sa... sa... sa... saker jeg sku'
Pra... pra... pra... pra... pra... pratet med deg om

Men... men... men... men... men... men alt de der må
Ven... ven... ven... ven... vente til vi ses i
Gjen... gjen... gjen... gjen... gjen, siste bussen går

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Odd Børre's song "Stress" express the overwhelming feeling of anxiety and urgency to get everything done before it's too late. The repetition of the verbs "må," "gå," and "nå" emphasizes the urgency and pressure to move quickly. The lyrics also suggest various ways to cope with stress and relax, such as taking small doses of medication, listening to the radio for calming music, trying meditation, and drinking tea with lemon or a small drink.

The second verse acknowledges the many things that still need to be done and discussed with someone, but they need to wait until they have more time. The chorus repeats the urgency to catch the last bus home, indicating a time constraint and a need to prioritize tasks. The final verse then suggests more ways to cope with stress, such as being "flink" (Norwegian for "good" or "clever"), implying a need to be efficient and productive in managing stress.

Overall, "Stress" is a relatable song that captures the feeling of needing to get everything done but not having enough time. It suggests various coping mechanisms to manage stress but also acknowledges the reality that some things will have to wait until later.

FUN FACT: "Stress" originally finished second in the 1968 Melodi Grand Prix on 3 March, but was promoted to the Norwegian entry when the winning song "Jeg har aldri vært så glad i noen som deg" was withdrawn from the contest by its composer amid persistent allegations that it plagiarised the 1963 hit "Summer Holiday" by Cliff Richard – who was the United Kingdom's representative in the 1968 contest.

@Knabberfritz

I absolutely love Jeg Har Aldri Vært Så Glad I Noen Som Deg!!!

@stefanenglishman954

@@Knabberfritz I love it too, it's better than "Stress" in my opinion.

@killershark4456

I would like to imagine Cliff reacting negatively to "Jeg har aldri vært så glad i noen som deg" and then trying to get Norway disqualified for plagiarism

@SwedieYT

Didn't Odd Børre also sing "Jeg har aldri vært så glad i noen som deg" but since it was withdrawn he had another song they used instead?

@orangespark2340

Again, i'm glad you guys are paying your respects to contestants who are passing away, but you should upload more of these old performances, including those of people who are still alive. A lot of performances from up until the late 2000s are unavailable in decent quality

@polarispictures5876

I second this - 'and the conductor is' is one of the few channels that actually uploads recordings, especially from the 70s-90s.

@orangespark2340

@@polarispictures5876 there's also Eurovision Gold!

@polarispictures5876

@@orangespark2340 Haven't heard of them before - will check them out!

@alexn1044

What a memorable song! So sad to hear he passed away last Saturday... I've always loved this song
