While recording their debut album, the band impressed several labels and ultimately selected Rise Records, to which they were signed on October 14, 2008. Their debut album, As If Everything Was Held in Place, was released on March 3, 2009, and through touring their region relentlessly, they quickly became the word of mouth buzz band in the genre.
On April 19, 2010, Of Machines stated on their myspace that they have broken up due to Dylan's earlier departure from the band thus creating a domino effect on the rest of the other band members.
As of early 2013, the original line up are now recording a new EP. Some songs came from it, but the band went on a new hiatus after that.

Becoming Closer To Closure
Of Machines Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Searching for a place
The conversations, well they start to turn
To heal the wounds
Don't fall asleep,
Don't fall asleep
We can't afford you to be alone
Don't fall asleep
Don't fall asleep
These dreams and the reality never seemed so refined
Until I awoke to find...
That this house is not a home
But something I can not define
How long will it be
Until i turn this key and just walk away
And this I find so unlike me
Seeking the parts that are lost
Never have I felt so deceived
Don't fall asleep,
Don't fall asleep
We can't afford you to be alone
Don't fall asleep,
Don't fall asleep
Don't fall asleep
The lyrics in Of Machines's song Becoming Closer To Closure are dealing with the struggle of finding one's place in the world, and the pain of feeling lost and alone in that search. The singer appears to be looking for a way to heal the wounds that they have suffered, but they are unsure of where to turn. The lines "Drawn to lines which fill the emptiness / Searching for a place" suggest a desperation to find something to cling to, something that will give them a sense of purpose or direction. The conversations referenced in the second line of the verse may be an attempt at reaching out to others for guidance, or perhaps an effort to make connections with others who are also struggling.
The pre-chorus, with its repeated refrain "Don't fall asleep / We can't afford you to be alone," seems to underscore the idea that the singer is in danger of losing themselves completely if they don't find someone or something to anchor them. The fear of being alone, of drifting away from reality into the dreamlike state suggested by the following lines ("These dreams and the reality never seemed so refined / Until I awoke to find..."), is palpable. The uncertainty of not knowing what to do or where to turn leads to a sense of desperation, which comes through in the chorus with its urgent pleas to stay awake.
Overall, Becoming Closer To Closure is a powerful exploration of the pain of loneliness and the search for meaning in a world that can often feel cold and unwelcoming. The song speaks to the universal longing for connection and understanding, and the fear of losing oneself in the pursuit of it.
