While recording their debut album, the band impressed several labels and ultimately selected Rise Records, to which they were signed on October 14, 2008. Their debut album, As If Everything Was Held in Place, was released on March 3, 2009, and through touring their region relentlessly, they quickly became the word of mouth buzz band in the genre.
On April 19, 2010, Of Machines stated on their myspace that they have broken up due to Dylan's earlier departure from the band thus creating a domino effect on the rest of the other band members.
As of early 2013, the original line up are now recording a new EP. Some songs came from it, but the band went on a new hiatus after that.

One of the greatest bands of all time. Criminally underrated. Miss them so much. Also, every time I listen to them i feel like I’m in a Decopunk city or in a futuristic 1930’s world filled with Art Deco stuff lol. Something about the mixing and how they play makes me feel like that. Also, their album cover is Art Deco/ Decopunk so maybe indeed they meant to low key give that vibe just like woe did with numbers when they made the album cover Steampunk themed.

I see on every one of their videos, people saying "I wish I could sing like him." It's simple. He's the one singer in modern music that doesn't have any real trick or technique that he uses. You just have to be passionate. Just know and feel strongly about what you're singing, and belt it, don't care who hears you or what they think. Doesn't matter if it's not as high in pitch, it'll have the same power. It's just natural belting of your emotions, and it'll come across just as strongly as him.
