While recording their debut album, the band impressed several labels and ultimately selected Rise Records, to which they were signed on October 14, 2008. Their debut album, As If Everything Was Held in Place, was released on March 3, 2009, and through touring their region relentlessly, they quickly became the word of mouth buzz band in the genre.
On April 19, 2010, Of Machines stated on their myspace that they have broken up due to Dylan's earlier departure from the band thus creating a domino effect on the rest of the other band members.
As of early 2013, the original line up are now recording a new EP. Some songs came from it, but the band went on a new hiatus after that.

Sailing Alone Around The Room
Of Machines Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We've burned the villages and left them empty
Sing now we carry in our lungs:
The hearts of millions, but will we hear them?
In the song "Sailing Alone" by Of Machines, the opening lines describe a group of people who have ruthlessly destroyed entire villages and left them abandoned. The use of the past tense "we've burned" implies that they have already caused this destruction, and the repetition of the phrase "burned the villages" emphasizes the brutality of their actions. Despite their violent behavior, the group is still capable of singing and carrying music within their bodies. The line "The hearts of millions, but will we hear them?" suggests a possible sense of guilt or regret, as though the group is aware of the suffering they have caused but unsure if they will be able to empathize with it.
The rest of the song continues to explore themes of isolation, doubt, and emotional turmoil. The chorus features the repeated lines "I'm sailing alone, I'm sailing alone / Through the storm and the rain, I'm sailing alone," conveying a visceral sense of loneliness and vulnerability. The use of natural imagery throughout the song, such as the stormy sea and the "city of water," further emphasizes this sense of isolation and uncertainty.

It's crazy how music alone can bring about such euphoric nostalgia.
