We Sink
Of Monsters and Men Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All those eyes on me
As I sink into the open sea
Color in my sheltered mind
Fill the gap between you and I

We are the sleepers, we bite our tongues
We set the fire and we let it burn
Through the dreamers, we hear the hum
They say come on, come on, let's go
So come on, come on, let's go

It's warm, the skin I'm living in
It creates and shapes what is within
So please look away, don't look at me
As we sink into the open sea

We are the sleepers, we bite our tongues
We set the fire and we let it burn
Through the dreamers, we hear the hum
They say come on, come on, let's go

We are the sleepers, we bite our tongues
We set the fire and we let it burn
Through the dreamers, we hear the hum
They say come on, come on, let's go
So come on, come on, let's go

I know that it's a waste of time
Chasing in the dark
But keep me in your clouded mind
'Til time ignites a spark

I know that it's a waste of time
Chasing in the dark
But keep me in your clouded mind
'Til time ignites a spark

I know that it's a waste of time
Chasing in the dark

But keep me in your clouded mind
'Til time ignites a spark

Overall Meaning

The song "We Sink" is a powerful and multi-layered reflection on human relationships and how we navigate them. The first verse sets the scene and introduces the sense of being watched or judged. The singer feels exposed and vulnerable as they "sink into the open sea," a metaphor for the overwhelming feeling of being submerged in one's emotions. The second verse invokes the idea of the "sleepers" who keep their feelings hidden and repressed, while the dreamers hear a calling to let go and be free. Throughout the song, there is a constant tension between the desire for connection and the fear of being seen and judged by others.

The chorus is a rallying cry for those who wish to break free and explore their true selves. The repetition of "come on, come on, let's go," creates a sense of urgency and excitement. The final verse is a plea to be remembered and held in someone's thoughts, even if only in a vague and clouded way. The lines "But keep me in your clouded mind/Til time ignites a spark," suggest the possibility of a deeper connection or understanding in the future.

Overall, the song portrays the struggle to reconcile our innermost desires with the expectations and judgments of the outside world. It invites us to embrace our vulnerability and take risks in pursuit of true connection with others.

So what? You need to always be around someone wearing a hijab or include someone with a hijab to not be considered racist or some enemy of equality and diversity? There’s no ounce of logic or reason at all in that.

Not to mention it is not racist to have an opinion on the religion of Islam itself as objectively it is wrong, homophobic, sexist, racist and ideologically is against equality and diversity. Read the actual Koran page for page and you’d understand that fact. It is racist however on the other hand to state that all Muslims and Refugees are terrorists or agents of creating terror. Being a decent human being dictates that you treat everyone how you yourself wish to be treated. Everyone is human, everyone is equally imperfect, fallible and flawed, gender, race, sexuality, religion, culture, etc is all irrelevant to that universal truth. We all are red inside and have the same skeletons. We’re all human.

If people do not treat you with respect, treat you inequally based on their own agendas and beliefs or opinion and dictate who you are or try to harm you, your friends and your family then they do not deserve the same back. So yes, when a religion dictates my freedoms and a group of people who use said religion as a weapon to oppress and hurt people around me for their own selfish purposes, I take issue with that as Gay male who has already had to grow up dealing with oppression from Christians and all kinds of people who play judge, jury and executioner on many of us in the community for simply...loving someone. How cruel is that? So when those who follow Islam to the letter and wish to instil things like Sharia Law into societies of freedom and liberty which solely states that I can be executed for being Gay and that women must adhere to the laws of Islam which is inherently sexist then I would do anything to stop something so evil and twisted from taking root in anything in this world. That is not wrong.

But don’t judge too harshly, I despise all religions equally if any of them choose to infringe upon my equality. If I’m treated with respect, I respect you in turn. You can love everyone, anyone with common sense wants to, I want to. However if there are things in this world that want to tear us apart, I won’t stand by and accept that. Anybody trying to twist that as “racist” is delusional because as I said, everyone deserves to be treated with love, respect and as a human being and no other made up factor plays any part in that. However if someone does ever treat you like you’re worthless then you are allowed to stand up for yourself and fight, if anyone says you’re wrong for doing that then they clearly only support “selective equality” and not equality for “all human beings and walks of life.” If we are to live in an equal world then we must unite against the threats that divide us rather than allow us to progress towards a brighter future and that includes the real racists, the real homophobes and xenophobes, the real nazi’s, the radicalised sectors of Social Justice and Feminism that actively use minorities and real struggles for personal power and to divide us all through communistic ideals, we must drive out all real terrorism and all terroristic ideals and communistic civilisations (i.e China, North Korea, Russia, etc) in order for us to truly live in a peaceful world.

That is why I say, Islam itself is objectively wrong because it aligns with communism which is inherently, having a secular society founded upon one mindset, one belief and one ideal be the one and only supreme way of life that the whole world must bend to and follow lest their very existence be deemed worthless and you are killed simply for not wishing to adhere to said society. Which is what happens in these Muslim countries where Sharia Law and Islam is prevalent and that’s why they run to other countries for freedom and to be safe. Because their countries are run by a communistic regime who is now using “fake refugees” to infiltrate countries, use “equality” as a shield to hide behind whilst getting certain people to perform terrorists attacks and instil themselves into positions of political power so we get things like what’s happening in the UK with Sharia Law courts now being enacted, schools being torn apart by followers of Islam for daring to teach kids about REAL EQUALITY and about how identifying as LGBT is okay and not a thing to ever feel ashamed for because it is OKAY! Now we have real homophobics using the “race card” and their “religion” as a gateway to oppress and belittle others and they get treated like a victim whilst Christians who do the exact same thing are always demonised as they should be for the same horrific actions they commit against people who just want equal rights. Now with Sharia Law courts being instigated soon it’ll only be a matter of time where if you are LGBT in a certain area of the UK you can be tried lawfully under Sharia Law and could potentially be jailed or executed.

I hope it’ll never come to that. It’s not wrong to be against communism and be against real tyranny.
