Ofelia released her debut EP 'So Long' in May 2014 with five English-language songs, which moves in the borderland between people, soul and pop.
Along with her regular band, she creates the sound that is characteristic of Ofelia. A sound where the voice carries the strong melodies forward in a hand game universe, and the guitars weave into each other like a blanket over the drums and bass.
In October 2013, she played a warm-up concert for the Danish artist Sebastian Lind at the venue Gimle in his home town of Roskilde.
At the same Gimle she was in March 2013 decided to sing a duet with Poul Krebs for his sold-out solo concert.
Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Ofelia K has seen a few of her collaborative tracks gain indie cred over the past three years, but she's just recently coming to light with her solo music, and critics are taking note.
Ofelia K has performed as vocalist of the indie-pop duo Wanderhouse and collaborated on the 2013 EDM track "New Scene" from producer Felix Cartal, which Billboard called "one of the best dance recordings of the year." It is only since June that she has been releasing music under her solo moniker, though she's still working with her Wanderhouse other-half, Andy Rosen (aka Doctor Rosen Rosen).
Bloggers are currently talking about Ofelia K's most recent single, "Gone," which she released last week and is one in a string of heartfelt pop tracks showcasing her delicate voice over clever complementary production.
Kick Kick Snare calls the track "a breathy, emotive masterpiece. Detuned pianos, gorgeous reverberations, and a stark intimacy build into a work that's both fragile and poignant." "From the start you can feel all the pain that Ofelia delivers in her gentle vocals as they flutter above the piano accompaniment. ... The lyrics of Ofelia's song "Tu" describe a surreal and vivid experience of death and rebirth. The first verse depicts the singer's skin burning and the onset of a massacre, while she quickly undresses herself to be ready for what's to come. She then describes her being a composition of madness and dreams, feeling caught between God and humans. In an attempt to overcome her fear, she submerges herself in water to awaken herself to a new life.
The chorus features the singer begging for salvation and asking for someone to touch her to overcome her phobia. Even though she feels like she's drifting away with flowers leaving her head, she knows that whoever she's asking for help is somewhere nearby and won't drag her down.
In the second verse, the singer has landed on a bad shore, feeling glass and concrete rubbing against her skin. She expresses the desire to ruin grass and sun, and finds herself lost in a gray forest. The experience intensifies, and she starts to see visions and believes that she's near the person who she's been calling for. The bridge repeats the chorus and emphasizes that the person she's calling for can save her and reassure her that they're still with her.
Overall, the lyrics convey a surreal and haunting depiction of someone's struggle with death and rebirth in the face of violence and fear. The singer appears to be asking for help to overcome it and survive, ultimately finding some solace in knowing that someone is with her.
