Crocodile Rock
Ofln - Elton John Lyrics

Me and Suzie had so much fun
Holding hands and skimming stones
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own
But the biggest kick I ever got
Was doing a thing called the Crocodile Rock
While the other kids were Rocking Round the Clock
We were hopping and bopping to the Crocodile Rock
Well Crocodile Rocking is something shocking
When your feet just can't keep still
I never knew me a better time and I guess I never will
Oh Lawdy mama those Friday nights
When Suzie wore her dresses tight
And the Crocodile Rocking was out of sight
La lalalala la lalalala la lalalala la
But the years went by and the rock just died
Suzie went and left us for some foreign guy
Long nights crying by the record machine
Dreaming of my Chevy and my old blue jeans
But they'll never kill the thrills we've got
Burning up to the Crocodile Rock
Learning fast as the weeks went past
We really thought the Crocodile Rock would last
Well Crocodile Rocking is something shocking
When your feet just can't keep still
I never knew me a better time and I guess I never will
Oh Lawdy mama those Friday nights
When Suzie wore her dresses tight
And the Crocodile Rocking was out of sight
La lalalala la lalalala la lalalala la
I remember when rock was young
Me and Suzie had so much fun
Holding hands and skimming stones
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own
But the biggest kick I ever got
Was doing a thing called the Crocodile Rock
While the other kids were Rocking Round the Clock
We were hopping and bopping to the Crocodile Rock
Well Crocodile Rocking is something shocking
When your feet just can't keep still
I never knew me a better time and I guess I never will
Oh Lawdy mama those Friday nights
When Suzie wore her dresses tight
And the Crocodile Rocking was out of sight
La lalalala la lalalala la lalalala la
La lalalala la lalalala la lalalala la
La lalalala la lalalala la lalalala la
In "Crocodile Rock" by Elton John, the singer reminisces about the carefree days of his youth when rock and roll music was vibrant and full of excitement. He fondly recalls the times spent with his companion Suzie, where they would joyfully engage in simple pleasures like holding hands and skipping stones. They had their own little world with an old gold Chevy and a special place they could call their own. The song captures the euphoria of youth and the innocence of young love, showcasing the sense of freedom and thrill that comes with being young and carefree.
The singer highlights the exhilaration he felt when dancing to the Crocodile Rock, a dance craze that set him and Suzie apart from the other kids who were more into the traditional rock and roll tunes like "Rock Around the Clock." The Crocodile Rock represented a unique and unconventional way of having fun and expressing themselves. It was a rebellious act of dancing to a different beat, showcasing their individuality and nonconformity in a time when conformity was the norm.
As the song progresses, the singer reflects on the passage of time and the inevitable changes that come with growing up. Suzie leaves him for someone else, and the once vibrant rock and roll scene begins to fade away. Despite the heartbreak and nostalgia for the past, the memories of the wild Friday nights and the infectious energy of the Crocodile Rock remain etched in his mind. The song serves as a bittersweet reminder of the fleeting nature of youth and the inevitability of change.
Through the infectious chorus and upbeat melody, Elton John paints a vivid picture of a bygone era filled with youthful exuberance and the thrill of dancing to the Crocodile Rock. The song captures a sense of nostalgia for a simpler time and the joy of letting loose and dancing without a care in the world. It celebrates the enduring power of music to evoke memories and emotions, leaving a lasting impact on the listener's heart and soul.

Heard the song when it just released. Playing pinball and smoking Texan plain sigaretts. Was 16 year's old in 1973. That music will never die. What a great time on the music front. Today I am 66 and still enjoy it as much.
