I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues
Ofln - Elton John Lyrics

Don't look at it like it's forever
Between you and me I could honestly say
That things can only get better
And while I'm away
Dust out the demons inside
And it won't be long before you and me run
And I guess that's why they call it the blues
Time on my hands could be time spent with you
Laughing like children, living like lovers
Rolling like thunder under the covers
And I guess that's why they call it the blues
Just stare into space
Picture my face in your hands
Live for each second without hesitation
And never forget I'm your man
Wait on me girl
Cry in the night if it helps
But more than ever I simply love you
More than I love life itself
The lyrics to Elton John's song, "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues," convey a message of hope and love amidst difficult circumstances. The singer encourages the listener not to dismiss or wish away their present struggles, but also not to perceive them as permanent. Despite any challenges faced, the singer believes that things will improve in time.
The lyrics indicate that the singer may be temporarily absent or physically distant from the one he is addressing. He urges them to confront their inner demons and fears, assuring that it won't be long before they can reunite and find solace in the special place in their hearts where they hide. This suggests that their love and shared experiences provide comfort and refuge from the harsh realities of life.
The phrase "they call it the blues" serves as a metaphor for the emotional state the singer and the listener may find themselves in. It implies a sense of sadness, longing, and vulnerability. However, the following lines present a contrasting image of the couple's love and happiness. The singer suggests that even in the midst of their blues, they can find joy and escape from their troubles by spending time together, laughing like children, and living passionately like lovers.
The lyrics also emphasize the importance of cherishing every moment without hesitation. The singer encourages the listener to imagine his or her face in their hands and to live fully in each second. This reflects the idea of valuing each precious moment and not taking their relationship for granted. The singer reassures the listener that he is committed to their love, stating that he loves them more than life itself.
Overall, "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues" conveys a message of hope, resilience, and the power of love to overcome hardships. It encourages the listener to embrace their emotions, find solace in their relationship, and appreciate the precious moments they share together. It reminds us that love can be a source of strength and comfort, even in the midst of life's challenges.

I listened to Elton John with my best childhood friend in the 70's and it was definitely the best time ever 😊❤

This song came out when my then-fiance had just left on a 6-month tour of duty on the USS Ranger, which subsequently turned into about 7.5 months because of world events. It was a loooonngg wait for him to return. We've now been married 40 years in March. Time flies by but this song is timeless. Elton John is an absolute icon and a gift to music.

I joined the Army in 1983, and this song released on the night before I left. My girlfriend, now wife, was with me, and this became our wedding song, and is still our favourite
