With her opera singer for a mother, theater organist father and Björk’s Homogenic on constant rotation, Oh Land was enraptured by the combination of experimental and classical arts. “My goal is to sound like I’m from 2050, but still feel really classic, like the music is an old friend,” said Oh Land. She spent her days pirouetting as a ballet dancer at the Danish Royal Ballet Academy when an injury forced her to reinvent herself and discover her true talent and passion as a musician. Oh Land was discovered by Kasper Bjørke who soon released her first album, Fauna, which garnered critical acclaim in her homeland of Denmark. Her soundscapes are lavish, crunchy, symphonic, brute and captivated with rhythms that fly apart. She translates the sounds live via her contraption - a homemade one-woman-band music box topped with balloon video projections (seeing is believing). Her music is for movement and new songs such as the thumping Sun of a Gun and euphoric White Nights have proven to make even the most portentous get up and dance. Having been discovered by Epic Records at 2009’s SXSW, she is currently putting the finishing touches on her US debut album and an EP to be released this fall.

Voodoo
Oh Land Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You cast another shadow
You're speaking like scissors cutting out a foreign pattern
All the things you do affecting my behavior
No doctor's got me diagnosed
No science proof to save me
It's voodoo you do
It's voodoo you do
There is fire in the air
All the noise will disappear
It's voodoo you do
There's needles everywhere
It's voodoo you do
I go higher in the air
I'm possessed when you are near
I love the color red
It is for love, it is for death
It is my ritual
I see it as my duty
Seduction is an eye
You can see through all the beauty
I know you wonder why
I'm so afraid of learning
If I convince you
There is no returning
It's voodoo you do
There's needles everywhere
It's voodoo you do
There is fire in the air
All the noise will disappear
It's voodoo you do
There's needles everywhere
It's voodoo you do
I go higher in the air
I'm possessed when you are near
Ooh, electrons disturbing the activity in my brain
Just a few more dials connected
And the smiles are coming back again and again and again
Ooh, electrons connecting and tuning
I love the color red
It is for love, it is for
Voodoo
There's needles everywhere
It's voodoo you do
There is fire in the air
All the noise will disappear
It's voodoo you do
There's needles everywhere
It's voodoo you do
I go higher in the air
I'm possessed when you get near
There's needles everywhere
There's needles everywhere
There's needles everywhere
There's needles everywhere
There's needles everywhere
There's needles everywhere
There's needles everywhere
There's needles everywhere
In the song "Voodoo" by Oh Land, the lyrics paint a fascinating picture of a mysterious and powerful force that affects the behavior of the singer. The song begins by describing the changes that occur when the mysterious force is near, with the singer referring to a change in silhouette and another shadow being cast. The force itself is characterized as speaking like scissors cutting out a foreign pattern. This passage of the song demonstrates the sense of unease and discomfort that the singer is experiencing in the presence of this force.
As the song continues, the singer describes the effect that the force has on them, with all of their actions and behavior being affected. Despite a lack of medical diagnosis or scientific proof, the singer exclaims that they are under the spell of voodoo. This sense of powerlessness is reinforced by recurring images of needles and fire, adding to the dark and mystical charges of the song.
However, despite the fear and anxiety that this force inspires in the singer, they are also drawn to it, describing themselves as "possessed" when it's near. The singer describes the force as a ritual, and even sees it as their duty to participate in it. The song ends on a somewhat ambiguous note with a description of electrons and dials connecting and tuning, leaving the listener to wonder about the true nature of the force that is being described.

@jackcore13 you're thinking of the movie Labrynth, with Bowie playing the Goblin King (and doing much of the soundtrack!). The scene/song is Bowie in the Goblin Castle after stealing Sarah's infant brother. A trippy scene with Bowie trading lines with muppet-goblins: "You remind me of the babe/ what babe?/ the babe with the power!/ what power?/ the power of Voodoo!/ Who do?/ You do!/ do what?/ Remind me of the babe." Cheers!
