Their name was inspired by a street in Indiana where lead singer Derek Williams grew up. “When my parents divorced, my mother moved my brother and I to Alabama,” says Williams. “We ended up leaving our lives and comforts behind to take a big risk as a family. Fast forward a few years and I felt like I was back in the same situation. Our band, Ohio Avenue, decided to try to play music full time. It was a big risk for us to leave our day jobs and rely on the band for income, but we knew it was the right thing to do.”
Though relatively new to the rock scene, the band has managed to make a powerful impact. Their debut EP was produced by Barry Blair and their single “Close to Me” received airplay across the Southeast. The band just finished a full-length project in late 2009 with producer Adam Smith called “The Sound.” The cd will be releasing on Itunes, Amazon, and other major retailers on February 16, 2010.
Ohio Avenue has landed opening slots for bands like Switchfoot and Needtobreathe. Most recently, the band has been invited to play at music festivals like Enfuego, City Stages, The Big Ticket Festival, and Cornerstone. In addition, Ohio Avenue was a favorite at NACA South 2009, booking over 30 shows at colleges across the Southeast.
As of today, Ohio Avenue is traveling and performing at venues all over the Southeast. They hope that their music will impact the people they meet in a meaningful way.
Show Me
Ohio Avenue Lyrics

A book of empty pages everywhere I turn
A thousand miles between but nothing ever changes
Are my hopes, are my dreams
Only photographs and magazines?
Am I less than what I seem?
What to do if you've got a plan
Would you show me? Would you show me?
Feel a little lost
Fighting battles without an end in sight
Is this worth the cost?
Can you tell me, am I wasting time?
The song "Show Me" by Ohio Avenue expresses the feeling of being lost or stagnant in life. The opening lines, "I'm all out of words, got ink and melody," convey a sense of frustration with creativity or expression. The repetition of "A thousand miles between but nothing ever changes" emphasizes a feeling of being stuck in one's current situation despite physical distance. The lyrics then shift to questioning the value of the singer's hopes and dreams, wondering if they are only superficial images found in media.
The chorus of the song pleads for guidance and direction: "If you know where I am, what to do if you've got a plan, would you show me?" The feeling of being lost intensifies in the second verse, as the singer wonders if they are wasting time and energy on seemingly never-ending battles. The song ends with unresolved questions, leaving the listener to ponder their own feelings of being stuck or directionless.
Overall, "Show Me" by Ohio Avenue is a relatable and introspective song about feeling lost in life and seeking guidance. The repetition of certain phrases and emphasis on uncertainty create a sense of emotional depth and vulnerability in the lyrics.
