As someone who lived in AK for many years, seeing a moose in Anchorage is almost a daily occurrence. They are mean though, not gentle like a cow and you definitely need to keep your distance.

Another time I was eating breakfast at the DFAC and this guy goes running full on sprint past the window and just little ways behind him was a moose with its horns down chasing him!

"I'll wait right here for you, take your time". I grew up in Alaska for 40 years. The problem is real. 😄One morning I was walking to work on Tudor Rd to the Native hospital. It was dark still. As I passed through an empty lot I turned to my right about 1:00 and saw a mama and baby moose standing there about 10-15 feet away from me. I panicked inside but I remained calm and just kept walking as there was nothing for me to hide behind should mama decide I was a threat to her baby. That was scary.

Friends of mine live in the Alaskan wilderness (their cabin is very remote) and they always have a shoulder harness on. My girlfriend said they’d only been there a month when she got locked into the outhouse for an hour at 5:30am while a bear tore the wood to shreds. She’s never been outside the cabin without her firearm since. I live in the Canadian Rocky Mountains where we don’t have the right to carry firearms or protect ourselves. We lose at least a couple people a year to wild animals, mostly bears and occasionally cougars as a result!
And our sociopathic Prime Minister is now trying to outlaw all gun ownership and hunting in Canada!

Very common in Ak. My guess is somebody in the neighborhood has been feeding this Moose. I noticed he was missing an antler. They lose their antlers after mating season. Typically when male moose are most aggressive. In the winters with lots of snow. City moose will walk on the streets and sidewalks eating shrubbery around Anchorage just because its easier to walk. Their typically not aggressive but are curious wild animals not to be trusted.

I live in Maine. First time I saw a moose in my yard I was in awe. It was so huge it felt like a dinosaur. I've since encountered many moose. They usually aren't aggressive, but I always put a tree in between us, just in case. :)

I've had this exact waking nightmare for 10+ years, except it's a tiger behind me, and I'm fumbling with my keys and can't get the door open when I realize it's there. This guy really upped the drama with a) cold (damage hurts way worse when you're cold), and b) ice, making it a so much harder to run.

I mean, it WAS the right call to make. A moose is a big, wild animal. It looks pretty calm, but unless you're an expert on moose, you don't really know what it's going to do, and if it gets angry or frightened, there's no way a human can overpower it while unaided by our technology.

I mean it’s the middle of Winter and While I know Moose are capable of being very dangerous, The way this one just kinda walks up calmly behind the guy makes me think he may have been looking for a food handout, lol

@comic book hero So it was just going to sidle up to him and smell him or what? I've never seen a wild moose approach and only be friendly (though, admittedly, I've not seen many moose on vid in backyards like this...)

@comic book hero Texas, yeah, there's no moose there. I have seen 'em around when I lived in Montana, but my ppl told me to always steer way clear of them (and the moose seemed to stay to the hills/mountains, usually).
