After several years playing in bands around the Atlanta area, Cramer decided to forge ahead as a solo act, adopting the Old Sea Brigade name in 2015. Self-released in 2016, his eponymous debut EP earned him enough buzz to land key support slots for Hiss Golden Messenger, Julien Baker, and Benjamin Francis Leftwich during his first U.S. tour. Later that year, he inked a deal with Nettwerk and began work on a follow-up release. Cramer's first single for Nettwerk, the rousing "All the Same," dropped in September 2016 and was later included on 2017's Wash Me Away, the first of three EPs he would issue that year. The song "Tidal Wave," from his next EP, Cover My Own, notched significant play on streaming networks. Cramer closed out a banner year with the Christmas EP Songs for the Holidays. Scattered throughout 2018 were the singles "Hope," "Feel You," and "Sinkhole," which preceded Old Sea Brigade's 2019 full-length debut, Ode to a Friend.
Let Me Know
Old Sea Brigade Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And I'm walking my old neighborhood
To see if I remember when
I held a warm feeling inside my skin
Don′t come down here
Your mind won't give up the fear
There's someone else in your eyes dear
Sad song for a lover
I knew a lifetime ago
It′s either me or another
But you gotta let me know
Settle down
Call off all the cops you found
Somewhere in your mind they wound
So go on and let them out
I'm ready now
But don′t go away
Sad song for a love
I knew a lifetime ago
It's either me or another
You already let me know
The lyrics to Old Sea Brigade’s song Let Me Know paint a picture of a man walking in his old neighborhood at night, reminiscing on a time when he felt warmth inside of him. The second verse reveals he is alone in this walk and warns his lover not to join him as her mind won't let go of her fears, likely caused by her attraction to someone else. He acknowledges that she must choose between him or the other person causing the fear but implores her to let him know her decision. The final verse is a plea for her to let go of the past and allow their love to settle into something genuine, rather than caught up in the chaos of the mind.
The lyrics explore themes of memories, fear, uncertainty, and redemption. The singer is trying to hold onto what he knows and loves, but he also knows he must let go and allow his lover to make her own choices. The song's mood is melancholic, and the singer seems to be struggling with his own feelings of loss and nostalgia. The melody, combined with the lyrics, evokes the sense of introspection and reflection.
