Go With It
Oliver feat. Chromeo (Best-Muzon.cc) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's half an hour past midnight your eyes are open wide
The traffic plays a tune you can't recall
Something you were thinking about seemed to be so important
But now it doesn't mean a thing at all
All the things you held onto so tightly in your hand
Seemed to slip between your fingers as you try
To understand just what it is you're looking for and maybe even why
You go it alone but you're not made of stone
Sleep on the couch in the glow of the tube
No one to hold you tonight
You go it alone
But you're not made of stone
Keep on believing somehow you'll find your way home
Your folks are down in Florida, the kids are moving west
No one ever seems to stick around
The guy who said he loved you is 1,000 miles away
You're just trying to get your feet back on the ground
You go to work each day and work your fingers to the bone
'Till the evening when there's nothing much to do
That's when you turn the TV on to see if someone's there
Who feels the same as you
You go it alone, but you're not made of stone
Sleep on the couch in the glow of the tube
No one to hold you tonight
You go it alone, you're not made of stone
Keep on believing somehow
You'll find your way home
The doctors have another name for everything you feel
They sit across the room and stare you down
They give you pills to make you sleep and pills to wake you up
passing judgment without knowing what they've found
And when it gets too much and you can't take it anymore
You try to break that mortal coil and fly away
But you wake up in emergency
And find it's just another endless day
You go it alone
You're not made of stone
Sleep on the couch in the glow of the tube
No one to hold you tonight
You go it alone
You're not made of stone
Keep on believing, somehow you'll find your way home
You're afraid to stop
To turn around
To look that beast in the eye
So you run away
Burn another bridge
Till there's nothing but ashes inside
You go it alone
But you're not made of stone
You sleep on the couch in the glow of the tube
Keep on believing in somebody new
Tell yourself stories that never come true
No one to hold you tonight
You go alone
You're not made of stone
Keep on believing somehow, you'll find your way home

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Go With It" by Oliver feat. Chromeo delve deep into themes of loneliness, disillusionment, and the constant search for belonging and home. The song paints a vivid picture of a person who is grappling with feelings of isolation and detachment from their surroundings. The singer describes a late-night scene where time seems to stand still, and the weight of the world bears down on the individual. The mention of traffic playing an incomprehensible tune highlights the disorientation and confusion the person is experiencing, as their thoughts slip away from them like water through their fingers.

The lyrics suggest a sense of lost importance and meaning in the person's life, as things that were once held tightly now feel insignificant and fleeting. The imagery of holding onto something as it slips away mirrors the struggle to grasp onto a sense of purpose or direction. Despite going through the motions of everyday life, such as going to work and seeking solace in the glow of the TV, the person still feels a profound sense of emptiness and disconnection.

The references to family members moving away and failed relationships further deepen the feeling of abandonment and alienation. The person feels like they are constantly left behind, struggling to find their footing and make sense of their existence. The lyrics also touch on the idea of seeking external validation and understanding, only to be met with judgment and indifference from others, such as doctors who prescribe pills without truly understanding the individual's inner turmoil.

The repeated refrain of "You go it alone, but you're not made of stone" serves as a reminder of the person's resilience and inner strength, despite facing seemingly insurmountable challenges. The imagery of burning bridges and running away from confrontation reflects a pattern of avoidance and self-destructive behavior. Ultimately, the song conveys a sense of hope and perseverance, as the person continues to believe in the possibility of finding their way back home, both metaphorically and emotionally.

I feel some type of way when you sit next to me
And I'm not tryna hide it, hide it
"You can't control emotion" is what's you said to me
And I'm not gonna fight it, fight it

[Pre-Chorus: Dave 1]
Check it
I say the words and they come out wrong
I know I shouldn't've left the lights on
The night is young, make it last long
Before it ends, I'm gonna give you the best of me
I'm getting caught up in the details
A little nervous 'cause I might fail
Don't wanna deal with another L
But every time, I need to tell myself

[Chorus: Dave 1]
You gotta roll with the punches
You better go with it, just go with it
You gotta roll with the punches
You better go with it, just go with it
[?] give you the curve, you get your feelings hurt
[?] got some nerve, it ain't what you deserve
You gotta roll with the punches
You better go with it, just go with it

[Post-Chorus: Dave 1]
It's alright, and it's alright
It's alright (Go with it, go with it)
And it's alright (Go with it, go with it)

[Verse 2: Dave 1 & P-Thugg]
I'm discombobulated, you ain't checking me
But there's no point in lying, am I right? (Is that right?)
So I'll get back to you later, this ain't phasing me
Your girlfriend's more excited I decided (Oh yeah)

[Pre-Chorus: Dave 1 & P-Thugg]
Check it
I say the words and they come out wrong (Out wrong)
I know I shouldn't've left the lights on (Lights on)
The night is young, make it last long
Before it ends, I'ma be giving you the best of me
I'm getting caught up in the details
A little nervous 'cause I might fail (Oh no)
Don't wanna deal with another L
But every time, I need to tell myself

[Chorus: Dave 1]
You gotta roll with the punches
You better go with it, just go with it
You gotta roll with the punches
You better go with it, just go with it
[?] give you the curve, you get your feelings hurt
[?] got some nerve, it ain't what you deserve
You gotta roll with the punches
You better go with it, just go with it

[Post-Chorus: Dave 1]
It's alright, and it's alright
It's alright (Go with it, go with it)
And it's alright (Go with it, go with it)

[Outro: Dave 1]
Go with it, go with it
Go with it, go with it
Go with it, go with it
Go with it, go with it

These guys are still the best producers of all time from a technical standpoint. unreal mastery of music production. No one comes close, it's actually unreal to consider this fact. What kind of ears for audio production were they blessed with

@drumsandroses22

orhema oluga Oliver is a great duo. I hope they’re cooking up some more jams in the studio cause I would love to hear more stuff from them. Their Full Circle album is a masterpiece

@@spcmcdgl chromeo is fucking amazing

@matsysmellsbetterthanyou

I love that.

I used to be the resident DJ at a spot called Boogie Nights, and as a 20 something year old bogstandard white dude, I think people expected to hear all the usual played out stuff like Don't Stop Believin, Pour Some Sugar, Hey Mickey (*vomit*) and so on. But, thanks to artists like Chromeo and Oliver, I spent my night dropping Cameo, Slave, Whispers, Maze, Rene and Angela, and all those types of tunes that clearly inspired songs like this one.

So I kinda had the inverse of your experience haha.

@DrumToTheBassWoop

Me and you would get on like a house on fire, same vibe-length. 😎
