Overall Meaning

Olivia Bray's "Lovely" is a song about falling in love at first sight. It starts with the singer wandering the streets and noticing a boy in "peppered jeans" who looks lonely. Their eyes meet and she feels as though he's seizing her heart. However, things change for the better once she sees his face and the world slows down although her heart races. She experiences a love at first sight that she never thought was possible and wants this boy to change her mind. Bray sings about wanting to love somebody and keep all the hope, love, and light in his eyes like it's hers. In her mind, he's secret-like and has a smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes. She's wondering if he loves somebody while the boy quickly turns and walks towards her.

The chorus repeats that the feeling is lovely, and the transition from telling us what she wants to feel, to sensing it in the midst of falling in love, and finally experiencing it herself as she falls head over heels in love at first sight is represented. She describes his eyes as having so much hope and then says that she wants to keep it like it's her own. She feels like she's come back home because falling in love never felt this good. Finally, she wonders what she's supposed to do as she continues to fall in love with him.
