Likened to 松田聖子, she won a singing contest and was signed to a Japanese recording company at the age of 15.
After completing her O-level examinations in Singapore, Olivia moved to Japan to further her studies and career as a solo artist. There, she became a member of a Japanese pop (J-pop) group called Mirai, before she released her bestselling debut, "A Girl Meets Bossa Nova" at only 19.
With her sultry, soulful and innocent vocals, she has since done her reinterpretation of Frank Sinatra's "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars" as well as other jazz and pop numbers.
Part of the wave of Singaporean talents being exported internationally, Olivia has, by far, been the only pop sensation exported exclusively to Japan, while previous stars such as 陳潔儀, 蔡健雅 and 孫燕姿 have only been exporting to the Greater Chinese market through Hong Kong and Taipei.
In 2009, Olivia signed to Taiwanese company HIM International Music and released her first album under HIM in March of 2010.
First Of May
Olivia Ong Lyrics

We used to love while others used to play.
Don't ask me why, but time has passed us by,
Some one else moved in from far away.
Now we are tall, and christmas trees are small,
And you don't ask the time of day.
But you and I, our love will never die,
The apple tree that grew for you and me,
I watched the apples falling one by one.
And I recall the moment of them all,
The day I kissed your cheek and you were mine.
Now we are tall, and christmas trees are small,
And you don't ask the time of day.
But you and I, our love will never die,
But guess we'll cry come first of may.
Now we are tall, and christmas trees are small,
And you don't ask the time of day.
But you and I, our love will never die,
But guess we'll cry come first of may.
When I was small, and christmas trees were tall,
Do do do do do do do do do...
The lyrics to Olivia Ong's song "First of May" evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing for a simpler time when love was pure and innocent. The first stanza describes a past when the singer and her lover were young and carefree, united in their love for each other. However, the passage of time has brought changes into their lives. Someone else has moved into their lives, and they are no longer as close as they used to be. The second stanza talks about an apple tree that grew for them. The singer remembers the moment when they first kissed, and it remains etched in their minds as a reminder of their love for each other.
The refrain repeats the sentiment that their love has endured the test of time, but they will still cry when the first of May comes around. May is traditionally associated with spring, new beginnings, and growth. But for the singer, it represents a bittersweet reminder of their love that has grown but may not be the same as it was once.
Overall, the lyrics to "First of May" are simple yet profound. They capture the essence of love and how it changes with time, but always remains a constant for those who cherish it.

따듯한 일입니다.그치만 지금 내옆에 있는 사람에게 사랑을 주는 것이 더 중요하지요. 이 사람도 언젠가는 추억이 될테니까요.
