Likened to 松田聖子, she won a singing contest and was signed to a Japanese recording company at the age of 15.
After completing her O-level examinations in Singapore, Olivia moved to Japan to further her studies and career as a solo artist. There, she became a member of a Japanese pop (J-pop) group called Mirai, before she released her bestselling debut, "A Girl Meets Bossa Nova" at only 19.
With her sultry, soulful and innocent vocals, she has since done her reinterpretation of Frank Sinatra's "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars" as well as other jazz and pop numbers.
Part of the wave of Singaporean talents being exported internationally, Olivia has, by far, been the only pop sensation exported exclusively to Japan, while previous stars such as 陳潔儀, 蔡健雅 and 孫燕姿 have only been exporting to the Greater Chinese market through Hong Kong and Taipei.
In 2009, Olivia signed to Taiwanese company HIM International Music and released her first album under HIM in March of 2010.
LOVE FOOL
Olivia Ong Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You love me no longer, I know
And maybe there is nothing
That I can do
To make you do
Mama tells me I shouldn't bother
That I ought to stick to another man
But I think you do
So, I cry, I pray and I beg
Love me love me
Say that you love me
Fool me fool me
Go on and fool me
Love me love me
Pretend that you love me
Leave me leave me
Just say that you need me
Love me love me
Say that you love me
Leave me leave me
Just say that you need me
I can't care about anything but you
Lately I have desperately pondered
Spent my nights awake and I wonder
What I could do have done in another way
To make you stay
Reason is not keep to solution
I will end up lost in confusion
I don't care if you really care
As long as you don't go
So, I cry, I pray and I beg
Love me love me
Say that you love me
Fool me fool me
Go on and fool me
Love me love me
Pretend that you love me
Leave me leave me
Just say that you need me
Love me love me
Say that you love me
Leave me leave me
Just say that you need me
I can't care about anything but you
I can't care about anything but you
I can't care about anything but you
In the song "Love Fool" by Olivia Ong, the lyrics paint a picture of a woman who is desperately trying to save a relationship that is falling apart. The woman is aware that her partner no longer loves her, but she is unable to let go and move on. Mama tells her to find another man who is deserving of her, but she believes that her current partner has the potential to love her again. She cries, prays, and begs for her partner to pretend to love her and stay with her.
The lyrics also reveal the woman's state of mind as she stays up all night wondering what she could have done differently to make her partner stay. She is confused and lost, unable to find a solution to her problems. She doesn't care if her partner truly loves her or not, as long as he doesn't leave her. The woman has become so consumed with the idea of love and being loved by her partner that she cannot imagine caring about anything else.
Overall, the song portrays the inner turmoil of a person who is desperately clinging to a loveless relationship. It highlights the pain and suffering that come with a relationship that is falling apart, as well as the emotional toll it takes on the person who is trying to save it.
