2. Omar Akram is the son of a United Nations diplomat, Omar Akram spent many of his early years traveling the world, soaking up the musical traditions of such exotic locales as Afghanistan, Cuba, France, and the Czech Republic.

Never Let Go
Omar Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But you wanted better
I used fire to manipulate growth
But you wanted better
After all I did it was never that
I never wanted you to let go
I never wanted to let you go
I gave the flower its crusading rose
You made the golden run from us both
And I said whatever
After all you said it was never that
I never wanted to let you go
I never wanted to let you go
Oh Oh
I never wanted to let you go
With regard to what I did to you
I never wanted you to let go
But you liberated my daunting past
It wasn't easy
To make something last
When all I did was stay true to you
I finally let you go
I finally let you go
After everything I did for you
I never wanted to let you go
You paved the road with your dark gray hue
I never wanted you to let go
I took the darkness like the way you knew
I thought it was easy
After all those things you made me do
I finally let you go
I finally let you go
I never wanted you to let go
But I finally let you go
These lyrics revolve around a complicated relationship where one person constantly strives to improve and satisfy the other, but despite their efforts, the other person always wants something better. The singer confesses that they tried to use their knowledge and skills to make things work, but their partner's expectations remained elusive. Metaphorically, the singer used fire to manipulate growth, representing their attempts to nurture and develop the relationship. However, their partner still wanted more. The phrase "after all I did it was never that" suggests that no matter how much effort the singer put in, it was never enough for their partner.
The chorus reveals the singer's deep desire to hold onto the relationship. They claim that they never wanted to let go and gave everything they had, including the metaphorical "flower its crusading rose," symbolizing their dedication and commitment to the relationship. Despite the singer's efforts, their partner decided to leave, represented by the line "you made the golden run from us both."
The second verse explores the aftermath of the breakup. The singer reflects on how their actions may have hurt their partner, admitting that they never wanted their partner to let go. Yet, their partner's departure ultimately liberated the singer from their daunting past. The line "It wasn't easy to make something last when all I did was stay true to you" reflects the frustration of the singer, realizing that their efforts to be faithful and committed were not enough to sustain the relationship. Finally, the singer acknowledges that they have let go of their partner, even though they never wanted to.
Overall, these lyrics portray a story of unrequited love and the singer's struggle to satisfy their partner's desires, despite their best efforts. The song explores the pain of letting go and the complexity of relationships where one person constantly seeks more.
