You Didn't Call Me
Omar Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(He don't love me no more)
(He don't love)
(He don't love me no more)

Evergreen, he controls me
Was there something wrong with my body?
Am I not what you wanted, babe?
If I ever tried, if I ever tried, I would

Evergreen (oh, oh)
He tears me to pieces (oh, oh)
(Evergreen) (oh, oh)
Doesn't even have to try
(Evergreen) (oh, oh)

She don't know you like me
She could never love you more, more than me
But sometimes I pray that you fall in love
I've cried, I've cried so much for you, baby

Evergreen (oh, oh)
He tears me to pieces (oh, oh)
(Evergreen) (oh, oh)
Doesn't even have to try
(Evergreen) (oh, oh)

You know you really made me hate myself
Had to stop before I break myself
Should've broke it off to date myself
You didn't deserve me at all, at all, at all

One last time
I see
Ever, evergreen
Please don't come home to me, oh
Oh, sweet evergreen
He don't love me no more

(He don't love me no more)
(He don't love)
(He don't love me no more)

Oh, oh
Oh, oh

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Omar S's song 'Evergreen' tell the story of a woman who has been controlled and torn apart by a man she once loved, referred to in the song as 'evergreen'. The song begins with her acknowledging that her former lover no longer loves her and has ended their relationship. She questions whether there was something wrong with her body, which suggests that she feels inadequate and blames herself for their break-up. However, she also asks if she's not what he wanted, indicating that she is aware that he may have simply stopped loving her and that it has nothing to do with her.

The chorus contains the refrain "Evergreen, he tears me to pieces, doesn't even have to try," which highlights the idea that this man has a strong hold over her and causes her intense pain. She then compares herself to another woman and claims that no one could love him more than she does, even though she knows that this is not true. She reveals that she has cried a lot for him, indicating that their relationship was intense and passionate.

Later in the song, she admits that he made her hate herself and that she had to stop before she broke herself. She claims that she should have broken up with him sooner and that he never deserved her in the first place. The song ends with her begging him not to come home to her and acknowledging that he doesn't love her anymore.

It didn’t go unnoticed by me that Omar is the one who built the room and enclosed himself in there (in a box) alone. Symbolic to the relationship. The glimmers of light shining through giving him hope. But even when it gets dark and things start to shatter he remains in the room. Just like a toxic relationship. The glimmer of light keeps us attached so long it isn’t until the damage settles and your left in ruins, that you can bring yourself to leave as you’re forced to realize there isn’t much remaining. Powerful song and music video ❤️

@RobynGallagher

Ok and the way the room is also a film set - it's not as real or as strong as it looks from the inside. Also, the room has an uneasy feeling - the pipe blocking the door, the low window, the random old furniture, the stairs to nowhere, the plate with pumpkin - it is not a cozy relaxing space

@DS300725

@@RobynGallagher YES!!! I almost mentioned the pipe blocking the door, almost like not having a way out even if he wanted to. LOVE your interpretation of the film set, so true!! Like it was all make believe from the outside in but felt so real for him.

@mikegarcia9908

Exactly where my head was at. Love how you put it together
